• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Good Evening,

Our hospital uses VHF pocsag pagers and we are having issues with coverage and we are waiting on an upgrade. Are there any 4G LTE pagers on the market that can do both?

What kb4mdz said. Maybe the antenna was damaged in a storm, or filled full of water? Even a moderate to high end antenna (~$2k) would be cheaper than a entire system overhaul...

A scanner or CCR on your freq should be able to help you isolate the problem. If the signal strength indicator shows full strength but the audio is distorted the transmitter would be the most likely source of the problem. Low signal could be the transmitter or antenna system.

The wiring interface from the paging terminal to the transmitter could be flaky it's a long cable run like from the telco room on the ground floor to the top floor.

When we put in new VHF systems at VA hospitals we had backup systems including a second antenna. A mag mount antenna would be another way to isolate which direction to look at. Maybe the transmitter PA flaked out and you're only getting exciter level.

High noise floor from equipment can cause a reduction in coverage by reducing the signal to noise ratio. E.g. if you are standing next to a computer spewing RFI on VHF, the pager has to hear the transmitter over that noise. Noise is usually worse on VHF than on higher frequencies (e.g. 900 MHz pagers).
But I concur with the KB4MDZ and K5DVT, the transmitter and antenna system should have a PM check to ensure it's at 100%.

And maybe a couple of other possibilities....I did not see mention of frequency....maybe someone new showed up in the area if its not a "paging protected " frequency...or in addition to standard transmitter checks- modulation- including tone level out of the terminal itself....
and I am assuming its a single transmitter system.
just a thought
