Well you say "California" but not every agency is the same, unless your looking for agency specific.

Some use 9 codes, some use 10 codes. Some use their own made up codes.

Most of that list is correct (with agencies that use standard ones). I would stick with what you have.

LA COUNTY AREA. There are a few things that would be nice to know. for example, does code 9 mean pursuit. anytime i hear code 9 it has been during a pursuit. but in writing would be nice. i know there are a few others. just can't think of which ones they are at the moment. thanks for your input though. much appreciated.

There are also agencies in Cali. that use 11 codes, like CHP and San Bernardino Sheriff's.

Code 9 for LASD does not mean a pursuit it is a pre stop request for coordination on a high risk vehicle. For example a unit runs a vehicle on the MDT and the vehicle comes back 10-29V (stolen). S.C.C. will then ask that unit it's status. The unit will reply that they are Code 9 on the vehicle, at which point the dispatcher will put the unit on the "duplex patch" ask for two units assistance and an airship. The handling unit will then coordinate with the other units and airship prior to intiating the stop of the vehicle.

One thing that is fairly universal in California that other states don't do is the use of actual penal codes and vehicle codes as radio codes. You will frequently here a 415 (disturbance) put out or a 211 (robbery), or 459 (burglary).

depends on who you're listening to ... adam usually refers to a standard patrol car, occupied by one or two officers/deputies, again depending on who you're listening to.

Some agencies use Code 9 over the radio when a unit conducts a traffic stop and there is no other available unit to follow.

Code 9 in my area is a robbery/211 alarm.

This just echos the point made by several prior posters...there is NO standardized radio code.

Apart from sensitive stuff... Plain language is the way to go.

CA. Radio Codes By County

This is the most complete and helpful county by county codes site I have come across. It does repeat a lot of the more common codes for each county but it is pretty easy to navigate.

Hi J.R.

Aside from a few errors, that list badly needs an update.

The one that caught my attention was how important Code 9 is now after the change.

BTW- Who at SCC decided a T/Stop should be a 909? Just kidding. Any change to a number was easier for the CO's/PRD's than spelling it out for each obs.

It's easier in Cad/MDT, but I just can't get myself to say it over the radio. Old habits die hard

Gene Hughes had a lot of code systems printed in the back of his book. He had a knack of being able to obtain them as did his volunteer contributors. I wish we could do the same on the Wiki pages.
