hi all , I've been out of the scanner listening for a wile and i am getting back into it now and heard about the rebanding , i was wondering if and when this will take place here in portland and what scanner i should get for when this happens. On another note what is a good scanner for listening to milair ?? is there a scanner that covers all i am asking ? i have a pro-95 with a radio shack 800mhz antenna , im not too impressed with it !!

thanks for the help and information!

I like the RS 800mhz antenna. I had a pro-95 but wasn't too happy with the build quality and its size. Take a look at the Uniden 396XT as I think it will do it all for you.

It might do more than that. It might drive you to the looney bin because it doesn't have Banks and channels as you may know them. :)

You may be better off with a PRO-162 if you can find one at a local radio shack. They can also search the area for one if they don't have one. the PRO-162 hand held and the companion PRO-160 base model are on closeout at a reduced price. They can handle the re-banding that is in progress.
I have a Yahoo group for those scanners with a simple trunking explanation, step by step programming, etc. PRO-160-162 : PRO-160-162 scanner help

I forgot to mention they cover Mil Air also the new 700MHz band. They have good audio and sensitivity.

I have read just in the past week or so of 164's that have stopped trunking and need to be sent back for repair. They were lucky it happened within the warrenty period.

Actually, its very nice once you think outside of the "bank" mentallity. It allows much more flexability in setting up your scanner(really nice if you travel outside your local area) and with the newer XT models you get way more than the 1000 channels that the 160/162 and 163/164 offer. Maybe thats why GRE/RS have gone to their own version of that same type of flexability with their top-of-the-line models. I'm not a technical wiz by any means and I had no trouble setting up my BCT15. And RS doesn't sell the 162 anymore so your best bet would be the "for sale" postings or eBay if thats the route you decide on.
