Does anyone know if Portland PD is now operating on the San Patricio SO TRS? I can still receive them on the Corpus Christi TRS link but unable to do so with their primary VHF freq. (155.190 ) ?

I'm trying to figure out just what the hell Refugio County is doing with the system. Some say they went digital, others tell me they are operating on regular system. On my way back from Corpus Christi, I heard Refugio County on 155.7075 with 136.5 PL. The units sounded like ducks and the dispatcher sounded perfect and clear. Anyone have information on this?

Portland PD picked up nice on the C.C. system, but I never saw them on the San Pat. system. I have the 155.1900 on the scanner and it never came up. Maybe they moved completely to the C.C. system.

Supposedly, if the database is correct, the SO in Refugio County is digital on 158.8575, and the 155.7075 analog repeater is in use by Refugio city police. I haven't picked up any digital skip in a while from that area, but last time I did, I caught Lavaca County and Atascosa County, as well as SA DPS in digital, but nothing else in digital.

I'm not sure that I'm "cyphering" the FCC license index correctly (emission code) but from what I can figure is the SO is licensed for analog and digital on their freqs. but the city shows as analog only for their freqs. I hadn't picked up on Lavaca going digital, thanks

I'm trying to figure if this is the time to invest in a digital scanner. I can't justify getting one for just DPS and a couple of counties I may be in on occasion.
However, since DPS has gone over, I suspect most all these other counties and departments will follow shortly. Can't decide if the Pro96 or BC396D would be the best choice.

As for Portland, I set up my Icom 7000 with a night logger for 24 hrs., only got 4 EMS calls and the regular morse station ID, no PD traffic at all. Everything seemed to be on the Corpus TRS system.

If/when the surrounding counties go digital we will not be able to monitor them at all. San Pat, Nueces, and Kleberg counties are all EDACS with the ability to go to PROVOICE when needed.

Last fall through this spring I was picking up CCPD TGID 274 on the San Pat System. What I heard was that the 3 counties linked their systems for Katrina/Rita operations that the link was still working.

I have also heard that NAS Corpus and CCAD are going to Motorola Smartzone Systems in the not too distant future. The NAS system is supposed to be P25. If/when this occurs I’ll consider going digital then if needed to monitor them.

I agree, I was hoping that maybe the 2nd tier of counties, Live Oak, Bee, maybe Jim Wells and some around Victoria would go MOT P25 on their existing freqs, ( ie VHF Hi with NFM spread). I figure Kleberg, San Pat and eventually Nueces will be loss causes. Maybe just CCPD dispatch in analog. A few months back I talked with some city radio folks and they seemed to indicate that this ProVoice may be a problem with interoperatbility, think it's a P-12 designation??? I didn't know about NAS/CCAD going smartnet/ P 25, thanks for the info. As you, that will probably get me to invest in a digital scanner.

I plan on waiting though. There was a bigger push in the past for the base to use part of the city's system that later got scrubbed after the base spent a bunch of money on equipment. I will gonna wait until my source tells me it is a for sure thing (or I find a control channel in the 380 ish range) and they have a confirmed start date. I will have to convince the boss to let me spend $500 just to listen in on base ops.

Just for info, listened last night a while at work and Portland PD is on the San Pat main site in Sinton and was on the one in Mathis, have not had a chance to listen to the Ingleside site - also heard the NAS PD group on the Sinton site as well as San Pat on the Corpus Shoreline site, sounds like its all mixed up for now, or maybe they have started working on upgrading the site to site links - also found a control channel on 408.2375 that sounds like Motorola and seems to be local or close in the area, can pick it up on a handheld scanner inside the house, no idea who that's gonna be, will watch it and see what shows up
