KC4JGC,
The "metro tac" units are no longer called that, they have been absorbed by vice and narcotics. Channel G will be used by towing and recovery, animal control and the warrant office.

KQ4Z,
The "ocean" units are overlap units. Their unit numbers are like "242o", or "242ocean". But they are being done away with also after March 1st when the new 3rd precinct goes online.

As is stands now, the traffic units, which have been working on "H"-the detective channel, will be assigned to a precinct for the day and they will have to work on the appropriate precinct channel. They are not happy about that and I forsee that changing real soon. But thats how it stands now.

Ok, so with special events such as Harborfest or other events such as races (like the recent half marathon that was recently in Ocean View, what TG would those be on?

Thats a good question. They would probably use the restricted channel "K" and one of the pcts alt channels. To be honest though they probably havent thought that far in advance. This whole plan was put together real fast without giving a lot of things a lot of thought. So who knows what will happen. Thats why Im wondering if they are going to create some more sub fleets in the future.

Hi Folks,

Sounds like Norfolk did make the change and go with the 3rd PCT beginning today.

I heard units talking yesterday about having to get their laptop maps updated yesterday.

Been hearing dispatches on the "old" TAC E Talk Group and just heard a reference from radio to "325"

Time to change the talkgroup descriptions.

KBB Thanks for your inside information as well.

Yep,
Went online yesterday at 0600 hrs with the new 3rd pct. I was the lucky one to be the 1st to sit on the channel when it went live. Boy I felt like my 22 years there went down the drain. All the districts have been redone and now trying to learn this is like starting all over again. Will take some time to learn them. Officers on the street are just as confused. But other than that all is going good so far.

Where can I find the meaning to the different codes (i.e. 174, 150 and others)? I hear Norfolk dispatch say codes when they read back if some one has "alerts" or not. I assume 174 is Drugs. They said Seller and user once.

The different codes you are hearing are really not being used in full force anymore..We are supposed to be using free speech but sometimes we do throw in a code instead of saying the real meaning. 174 is drugs, 102 is a weapon, 150 is homocide...If you go to the hampton roads scanner page
http://www.geocities.com/scanseva/

and click on Norfolk I think the list is still posted there...

To all those that have sent me private messages (that I just answered), sorry it took so long to reply. I didnt know there was a private message feature until I stumbled across it by accident.

Yes, they are still posted on that page. Also updated the TG's today. Gave credit to KB.
Again, thanks for the inside scoop!
