• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

One thing i did do was setup my speaker system, right next to my cb setup, and i could not hear any interference...so i am guessing this would be the same for other speaker systems near by. So you are saying that systems that have not been tuned, will ultimately cause the interference?

It's the RF radiated by the antenna that is the issue. If you are running decent equipment that is properly shielded and connected to a tuned antenna, there shouldn't be a lot of stray RF near your radio.

I was suggesting that some "peak and tune" jobs are done by hacks that don't really know what they are doing. They'll hook up an RF wattmeter to the radio and start twisting slugs/spreading coils to get the RF power output higher. If not done correctly and with the right test equipment, all it does is result in a really wide splattery signal that looks good on an RF wattmeter.

If the tech doing the "peak/tune" knows what they are doing, they'll keep the RF power inside the channel where it belongs. Might not look as impressive on a wattmeter, but it works better.

When i was researching my CB setup, i ran a across a few stories whereby people mentioned that their power linear amp setups, causer interference on near by or neighbouring speaker systems. However, when i bought my 500W amp, and the pretuned Antenna (which supports 1000W) i have ran it without any interruption to my speaker system 2 feet away, let alone a neighbours speakers, so my question is, is this really true, is it something these people have changed or is it more due to poorly shielded speakers?

With good equipment, proprly tuned, there is hardly ever any interferance issues.
Neighbors complaining of TV/stereo interferance, usually a good low pass filter solves a lot of that.

There are MANY variables, so the "didn't do it for me" thing only means your specific application/situation didn't suffer from that issue.

Poorly shielded speaker, long speaker wires that act like really good antennas on 27MHz, poor quality electronics, poorly shielded stereo equipment, different qualities of coaxial cable, grounding, probably 20 other things.
