NAC 169 listed as RAF Mildenhall UK

Makes sense he'd see that NAC given his location...though the base system uses UHF (as do the other nine US P25 setups in the UK).

The 160/170MHz freqs make little sense but it wouldn'ty be the first time the US have ignored UK bandplans and licences.

Not likely they are ignoring, but likely they have an agreement for the short period of time they are in-country.

The US has done that many a time for foreign missions also working in the US

Speaking from my experience 20 years ago, the frequencies used were always in the 162-172 range and were cleared with standing agreements with the host government by WHCA through State Department. The special portables that were issues to us for the foreign trips contained those frequencies, and they had names like "Paris Charlie," Tokyo Charlie," etc.
