@mmckenna .... Astron power supply? I was just wondering about this power supply SS-30-AP . I am still deciding on a radio but it will be the IC-7300 or the Yaesu FT-710. I would need the power supply for home use. Is this one sufficient or do I need a bigger one or different style? It is an Astron, light weight, more compact in size, what's not to like.

That is an excellent power supply, low RFI for HF use and the best in and out of warranty in the business. I also have several of the Powerwerx SS-30Vs and they are fine but I've had to replace fans on a few that were bought used on fleabay.

I concur with prcguy. Astron makes good stuff and I've had one that ran for 25 years without any issues.
30 amps is enough for a 100 watt HF rig, with some room to spare.

Switching vs Linear.

The former has come along in tech since a good number of years ago.

We used to have the boat anchor converters in TTs and Moho. First thing I did was switch 1989 for 2012 when I bought mine. Been in near constant use since then.

If others are happy with given spec running HQ 100W HF rig, then you’re good.

I have the Magnum 3000 watt inverter/charger in my 5th wheel..... I did order the Astron SS-30M-AP tonight. When I ran a crossed that Astron it was the size and weight that had me confused....
