Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I’m so sorry for this post. I just joined.
Got a Baofang UV-5R

I’d like to set it up by uploading different NOAA channels
as a simple test to understand the process.

How/where do I find the database csv to upload?

Then as a next step like to add channels to the GMRS frequencies. Is there a date base I can upload to the radio?

Then eventually possibly some local Fire EMS databases.

But I figured I’d ask that roll your eyes question, of how to I start setting up the radio via databases?

Thanks for your patience and gentle hazing, lol

Any actionable help greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Easiest way is with chirp or the OEM programming software.
I just keep a gap between amateur, weather, and GMRS channels (100s, 200s, etc)

CHIRP (actually now CHIRP New) has, as I recall, preconfigured presets for NOAA WX, GMRS/FRS, channels. Copy/paste into your channel line up.

You can also copy/paste data from RR (or other databases) into Excel, then edit the information and save as csv and then import into CHIRP.

Any external .csv file that you use with CHIRP must have the column headers in a certain order and data in a format that CHIRP can understand. You can't just copy/paste stuff from RR or other web sites and expect it to work.

I would suggest reading everything at Documentation - CHIRP and everything at UV5R, UV6R, GT3 Info - Miklor.
Thanks for that simple advice, I’ll start there. 👍
Much appreciated.

Chirp New can pull from this site, and Repeater Book. The weather channels are an option of frequencies you can load, with one check mark.
