Handheld in the car is skipping a bit when a local transmission is talking. It is like there is priority freq is on. How can find you find which channel it is except scrolling through freescan?
On the 396XT, while in scanning mode; push the Function button on the left side, upper button and quickly press the decimal button on the keypad to cycle through the 3 options: Priority mode on/Prority mode Plus on/Priority mode Off.
It sounds like Close Call or one of the priority modes might be turned on. Each of these will cause interruptions in the received signal. In addition to Priority Scan, check to see if you have any of these turned on:
Close Call
Weather Alert Priority
An icon will be shown on the display if any of the priority modes are enabled.

And the close call was on. I had just installed lately. Never thought about cc but I knew a priority channel would bother it. Is it the same on my sds 200-150?

Yes - close call on the SDS150/200 behaves the same. If you enable Close Call DND (Do Not Disturb) , close call does not interrupt active transmissions.
