Pro-106,197 On Sale Yet AGAIN until 10/31/09

I dont quite understand WHY, but RS has the pro-106,197 on sale AGAIN! I remember a time when RS put radios on sale, then it would be a LOOOOONG time before they did it again. Now its like every 4-6 weeks it seems. The Pro-163, 164 scanners are on sale again as well. Personally, I wont be jumping at the $399 price. It has become the normal sale price which we all know will be back in only a few weeks after they end THIS sale. I am going to wait until after black Friday right to the Xmas holiday. Can you say Friends and Family coupon?.....

I don't think they are selling very well. The serial number on my new 106 is near 9700 with a date code of July 2009. I picked up mine for 329.00 with a coupon. People don't mind spending a couple of hundred dollars on a scanner, but at $500 they can buy a computer with monitor at wal-mart. The price of scanning may kill it and the market.

Here is what I find funny though, they are always out of stock of either the 106, or the 197 online when these sales come up. I wish I had a coupon right now.......$329 is not a bad price.....My local RS has them in stock.

No, Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving. It is THE busiest retail shopping day of the year. Retailers discount certain products so as to attract as many people to their store as possible. It is believed that so many people shop that day that retailers who are in the red finacialy, will be back in the black because of this day's sales. Thus the name "black Friday" . Anyhow, the Friends and Family coupon comes out usualy between this day and Xmas. So its best to wait till then to get a real good discount on the Pro-106,197 scanners. The coupon is usualy good for a specific amount of time, I could be wrong. After that, its just on sale at prices like the ones you see today. With RS though, you never know, the're weird like that.

I can't see myself paying over $300 dollars on a Pro-197 when I was able to pick it up cheaper last year. Who remembers the last years sales.
This year 3 of my local RS have them in stock.

I agree with Manny. I'm going to hold tight and wait for a F&F coupon. Got my Pro-106 for $279 last year. I will grab a Pro-197 if they run the same sale in conjunction with a F&F coupon. We shall see.

In 2008 there were two Friends & Family events - one in early November and if I recall correctly, the second was in December. I got a PRO-106 during the first one and a PRO-197 during the second one, each for just over $300 including 7% sales tax and shipping.

Both are great scanners. I can use a second tabletop model and like the PRO-197 enough that I'll be in for one this year if/when the Friends & Family event is repeated.

The November F&F period last year coincided with a $399 sale on the 106/197 for only the last day or two of the F&F event, and I was fortunate to get in on it at that point.

As Manny said patience is the keyword here. I've been waiting all year for this time to come around again.

If you are looking to purchase, don't delay when the moment arrives - last year the PRO-106s flew out of the warehouse during the first F&F and went out-of-stock very quickly.

Thats about the price I paid for my Pro-106 around the same time last year. Now I dont know if it was a fluke or what from RS that they had them on sale AND they put out the F&F coupon. Nonetheless, I hope they do it again this year.
