What does this attack have to do with the error? Asshat

The error has already been addressed - regarding orphaned talkgroups. It was YOU who complained that the software doesn't work.

You got an answer in post #13. That was the correct answer.

I just downloaded the Nashville/Davidson county police and fire talkgroups and the software downloads AS EXPECTED, downloading ALPHA TAGS (as presented int he RR database) when choosing Display and the first 16 characters of the Description field when choosing that option. Not quite sure what your problem is other than you jumped on the software and database not working when in fact you just didn't know how to USE the software.

It sounds as if you want it present alpha tags that aren't documented ANYWHERE.

I am guessing that the heap error occurs because the scanner doesnt expect to find an object not in a scanlist because the scanner puts entered un-associated objects in the no-scan list (Scanlist 0). Technically I would consider it a bug kinda because the software doesnt support the no-scan scanlist (0). But it is not supported by any of the 3 softwares avalable I Believe maybe it was to hard to impement.

Maybe the program should have been written to not allow such errors to be programmed into the radio.

Import from RR, Load to scanner, simple, don't need a degree to do that.

How about a little less smart ass and a bit more constructive help?

It's easy then. Write your own damn software and do it yourself. Common sense says the software can't anticipate the variations in user submissions and edit them accordingly. That's why user intervention is needed before you load your changes to the radio. Guys like Don Starr and Mike (PSREdit) invest a lot of time in their software and are more than willing to help people out having problems, but jumping on here like an arrogant ass is only going to get you some grief in return. Maybe instead of calling people asshats you should spend a little more time reading and trying suggestions from some of the other fine folks in this thread. Most users on here will bend over backwards to help a fellow member, but a little respect and consideration is expected along the way.

I think I fixed the heap error

pressed 0 when turning on and welcome message comes up, and then press 1, and then enter.

I did what BOB did pressed 0 then 1 and dumped it and reset it bact to factory settings. I'm sorry I'm not as technical and some folks here but the two sets of software I used were confusing I had better secess when I went trrough the pre programmed stuff but that gave me everything Including stuff I wanted I'm in Northern NewJersey and I heard Camden.

the 106 is a very frustrating beast ...... I'm still not following the concept of talk groups instead of banks, this error happened to me as well

What your doing is creating a talkgroups, and forgetting to assign them to a system.
Say you have a system called Anywhere County, in scan list 5, so You start make a list of users (aka- talkgroups), and You forget get they belong with Anywhere County, by default they go to scan list 1, so that way they end up not being associated with Anywhere County, to fix it all You have to do is open Win500 or ARC500, or what ever software your using, to fix the problem, go to to scan list 1 and changing them to match Anywhere County, in scan list 5.
That should take care of your problem.

Talkgroups don't relate to banks, the closest thing on a 106 to a bank on an old style scanner is the scan list. You add conventional and trunked systems to a scan list in order to monitor them.

Talkgroups are specific to trunked systems, if you're not monitoring trunked systems then you don't deal with talk groups.

Heap Error

The ONLY time I ever experienced a "heap error" was when I attempted to program my PSR 500 without programming software. After I realized what this entailed, I was able to go inside the radio & see what was dissociated. If my memory serves me correctly, this was when there were unattached talk groups floating about. This is the main reason I don't resort to "manual" programming.

reset

I had this error also, had to clear the memory and upload again. I think I created the problem when trying to make a change in the talkgroup. Used ARC500 to make and upload changes.
