I am new to the scanner world and I just got a Pro-106. I also picked up an Enercell 9V 800mA power adapter with C tip. My question is would it hurt anything to remove the battery pack completely when running on AC power? Does anyone use their 106 like this while at home? Or does it require the yellow pack to be installed if running on AC power? I would rather leave the battery packs out completely and just use the AC power to save batteries. I can always throw batteries in if the power goes out or something.

Welcome to RR,

I am new to the scanner world and I just got a Pro-106. I also picked up an Enercell 9V 800mA power adapter with C tip. My question is would it hurt anything to remove the battery pack completely when running on AC power? Does anyone use their 106 like this while at home? Or does it require the yellow pack to be installed if running on AC power? I would rather leave the battery packs out completely and just use the AC power to save batteries. I can always throw batteries in if the power goes out or something.

The Pro-106 works fine on AC power with batt-packs removed. As a precaution, I would program the radio's battery-setting to "Alkaline" so that the charging circuit is totally disabled. I use this configuration frequently when not mobile.

Hope this helps,
