I have a RadioShack pro-136 and I've noticed that when listening to the scanner frequencies, I hear a very slight crackling sound (sort of like it "underneath" the static). This happens even when there is nobody talking on a frequency and the squelch is 0.

The weird thing to me is that this doesn't happen on the FM radio band, just on everything else.

Anyone have an idea as to why this would happen on everything but the FM broadcast band?

:) My guess, localized interferences (like, but not necessarily, fluorescent lighting system or an electric motor near the radio). Have you tried moving the scanner to different locations? Also, if using in a mobile config, you might have D/C noise from the vehicle, add a line filter and/or change the location/length of the antenna (or use a remote antenna far away from any noise coming into the radio through the antenna) Good luck! :)
