got my new 163 home, with my cable, got everything uploaded to the computer and installed.. used ARC300 and programmed bank0 with the 12 800mhz freqs.. and then in the talk group menu. added the talk group numbers and alpha tags. everything seams to be working well.. getting really good reception.. all the talk groups i programmed in were fire/ems for my county.. but it sounds like im picking up a dispatch and a few deputy units .. there is no alpha tag .. only a MOT: XXXX where the alpha tag would show up for the ones i programmed in..

nothing in the really crapy directions say why this is happening.

any help would be appreciated!

thanks!

I'm not familiar with your scanner model, but there is an easier to read manual (second one down on right side) that says it is for the Pro-163 along with a bunch more. That may be of some help for you.

I agree that the OEM manuals all seem to be written for someone that has years and years of experience or their background includes a Doctorate in Electrical Engineering. They all do it.

great.. thanks.. ill take a look.

i did some playing around with it last night. i reprogrammed it with just the talk groups that i want and ensured the rest of the banks were empty. and it was still doing it.. picking up other id's that i didnt program into it.. this morning its picking up public works and railraods.. its almost as if its halfway on CC only mode and trunk program mode.. if i lock out a MOT ID that i didnt program in .. and download to arc to check it.. it will list the other MOT IDs under the talk groups that i dowloaded.. and be labeled L/O -yes.. the l/o seams to be keeping the other channels under control.. seams i pick up a newer one every now and then..

weird

anyway.. thanks for the link. ill check it out

Sounds like you have the Bank in Open mode. If there is a + symbol below the bank number, then the bank is is open mode. If there's a - symbol, then the bank is closed, and you'll only hear the talkgroups you have programmed on a trunked system.

I don't know how to switch that in ARC300, but in the radio you can set a bank to open or closed going to manual (or while a channel is active in the bank) and pressing the F(Function) key, followed by the . (decimal) key.

Sounds like the scanner is scanning in open mode, which will scan everything in the trunk regardless of defined talkgroups.

To scan select talkgroups, make it a closed system. This option will be on the settings screen for each bank. Setting a system closed as I said, will scan only the selected talkgroups on a trunked system, and on a CTCC or DCS system, will only scan and open on those identified frequencies. If however, you have a frequency using CSQ I think it will also stop for transmissions on that frequency too.

Hope this helps.
