I have done everything right to the letter and it will not trunk scan PERIOD.

Do you have to enter ALL system Sites or what?

I have Brevard County's Palm Bay site entered into bank 0 starting at ch. 001 with all channels and trunk mode set to EDACS and it's not doing a damn thing and it's making me very angry.

Edacs are a pain at first but easy if you know what to do. Here are some troubleshooting steps:
1. Did you set the channels in the proper LCN?
2. Are you reciving a Control Channel?
3. Is the system *AND* channels set to EDACS mode?
4. Is it Un-squelched enough to scan?
5. Does it work on other EDACS systems?
6. Will it pick-up the EDACS mode you are trying to scan?

If you're programming using a PC I can send you a win97 file.

LCN is set correctly, squelch is fine, all channel and trunk modes are fine and the EDACS system is standard.

I don't have my programming cable here with me but you can send the file

the control channel comes up in manual mode but not trunk mode. Am I supposed to just enter the control channel or all of the system freqs or system/site freqs?

You need to enter all of the site freqs in the correct order. You don't need to / cant enter all the system freqs in one bank as they would overlap LCN's.

I sent you a PM. I can also send you a file with Clearwaters EDACS Which I know works. Look at the setup for both Brevard and Clearwater and see if it's different than what you have done.

I found the problem. The scanner isn't recognizing freqs do to a major firmware glitch. in order to hear an 800 mhz freq conventional style, i have to set the freq in AM mode.

Tried to upgrade the firmware but it won't let me, keeps saying no data from scanner.

the scanner won't scan edacs at all because it's not set right. i'm pissed because i don't have the money to get another one and don't know what to do

From what you're describing, the radio may be off frequency.

Try reading through this post

Do not use AM mode.

What version is your firmware? V 1.07 contains a fix for another possible problem..."The problem is that when the same frequency is stored in the control channel of Motorola System and of EDACS System, the software does not decode EDACS Control Channel data properly"

1.01 and 1.10 respectively comes up when i power and PGM at the same time.

I tried to put 1.08 on it but it won't let me. the program says there is no data coming from the scanner after i press update.

Maybe this will help You.

PRO-163/PRO-164
CPU 1.06 Firmware Upgrade
Upgrading your 20-163 or 20-164
Upgrading your scanner is a quick, simple, a
nd safe process. There is no way you can
render your scanner inoperable by performing the firmware upgrade.
Before upgrading
Prepare for the upgrade by completing the following:
1. Download the 20-163/20-164
firmware upgrade package.
2. Install the drivers for the RadioShack Catalog #20-047 cable on your personal
computer.
3. Connect the USB cable to an availabl
e USB port on your personal computer.
4. Know the COM port number
that Windows has assigned to
the USB cable. You can
find the COM port number from Devi
ce Manager in Control Panel.
Step by step upgrade procedure
1. Upgrading your scanner will result in t
he loss of any programming that you have
stored. We recommend that you save y
our work before proc
eeding with the upgrade
using a third-party scanner programming softw
are. For more information, see the
“Setting the custom programmable trunk
ing tables using third-party scanner
programming software”
section below.
2. There are two versions of CPU firmware:
• 20-163_164_v106_BOOT100.EXE works with earlie
r versions that utilize Boot
Version 1.00.
• 20-163_164_v106_BOOT101.EXE works with more
recent versions of that utilize
Boot Version 1.01.

To determine which version you should use,
turn your radio off, hold down the
PGM
key, then turn the radio on again. Refer to the
“uP Boot Ver:”
line at the top of the
display to determine the boot ve
rsion used in your radio.
3. Double click on the correct upgrade file
to start the upgrade process. Follow the on-
screen instructions exactly.
4. When the upgrade is complete, disconnect
the USB cable from the scanner. Turn
the scanner off, hold down the
PGM
key, then turn the sc
anner on again. Confirm
that the radio now reports the CPU version
as 1.06. Turn the radio off then on again
to reset it.
