Pro 197 Help

Have a few questions and hope i am posting in right forum. Have pro197 rs scanner. I was told that the only good way to enter freq's is to download from this site. I am a free member and do not mind subscribing to paid membership. Also told that I must buy a $39.95 download program so I can do this, dont mind either. What I need is a step by step procedure for this if someone can post it or tell me where to find it? Thanks in advance!!!

Or save the $40 and just use the keypad, it's easy.

First off you've been given some slightly inaccurate information. You can manually program your scanner, it just takes a little bit of time to do so. It is easier of course to use programming software to do the programming for you. You can also use the software to manipulate it to how you want to listen, such as by county, by agency, etc.

Yes you will need to buy a few things along the way, the programming cable, which you should always buy when you buy the scanner (Radio Shack has a deal when bought with the scanner). You should also buy good programming software, which can be downloaded online from a few sources.

I recommend Win500 and you'll get the same answer out of many others. I have and still use Win 97 for my Pro-164 and Pro-2055 and it's real easy to work with, and doesn't cause incorrect changes in the transfer. Win500 is so easy to work with and is available through a 30 day trial. I have multiple V-folder files that I use for my various listening habits that are stored in the Pro-106 so I can shift on the fly from All Military, to All Federal, to ordinary daily listening. I won't be going to any of the locations in the preloaded V-folders so I've erased those (but kept on computer if needed).

help

First of all big thanks to all that replied!! I have the pro97 as i said downloaded win500 software, have the cable and the codes are on the website now for iowa county wisconsin. Cant find anything that tells me how to download the freq's to the software to the scanner. Know it cant be that hard!! Please help with simply instructions step by step. Really confussed now!!

I'll take a crack at it...if you cut and pasted them in the win500 from RR.com don't forget to save your data to a file within the win500 so you can add,save,or modify that file. Then you plug the cable in to the PC/IF port in front of the 197,have the scanner on and in the win500 hit edit,upload to scanner!! If might say com port error but you can go into your PC device manager and find the com port that the Radio Shack wire is using. Your right when I first did it,it was a bit intimidating but once you upload a few files or frequencies you'll get the hang of it!!!

Finnaly got the pro 197 to take download a week in a making ugh!! Now what? It says "nothing enabled" on the screen. The manual is completely worthless. Really need help here please!

Did you try programming it by the keypad? For some it's actually easier. :wink:
If it says nothing enabled that means you don't have any lists turned on. If you see a row of horizontal dots,then push scan and the number 1
This will enable the first list.

Make sure the banks are turned on by pressing the numbers on the keypad, u probably shut all the scan lists off.

a Little more help

ok guys got it programmed using butel software for iowa co. wi. conv and p25 trunking. it scans fine but does not pickup anything. Is there something i am missing? Thought the software took care of all? Have people waiting for me to help them. Please help!
