I didn't see anything in these listings pertaining directly to the pro2040 but I'm wondering if anyone has had a problem with this unit "hanging" on vhf-hi freqs. Mine will work ok for a while and at some point start sticking on a couple different hi-band channels(155.595, 155.34, 155.565, 154.95, 151.325 etc) It sounds almost like an open carrier that fades in and out and some times contains a high-pitched "warbling" in the background. I've tried tuning up and down from freq but usually to no avail. Unless I squelch full tilt it rarely goes away. The unit is not near any other equipment and has an outside mobile antenna - magnet mount - attached to a metal "plate". When it's not stuck it does a pretty good job pulling in plenty of Dx freqs. What do you think? Appreciate it.....AE

If you remove the antenna will it squelch and start scanning? If so, your getting interference/noise from something. If it still holds on those frequencies with the antenna off, it could be internally generated signals from your scanner, called "birdies". If you have the manual, it may list some of the birdies.

The scanner will resume when disconnecting the antenna. These aren't birdie frequncies - at least not that I'm aware - I was under the assumption that birdies were inherently the same in any scanner.

Well the ones they list in all the manuals seem to be the same for any one I've ever had. Nonetheless, wouldn't a birdie be a constant?

I've got a pro 2040 and it will hang on some freqs often with little or no static. (not birdies)

I always thought a lot of interference was normal with any scanner?

Yes, a little...mine does exactly what you're describing. I've never had one hang on these channels and I've been in different locations with many different set-ups. I have a feeling a couple of the units I've bought are defective in some small way. They all work great accept for a few of these hang-ups. Obviously if they weren't on main channels I wouldn't care. Gets pretty annoying but I'm hoping the new unit I get solves that.
