I've had my Pro-2096 for about 7 months now, and i've noticed a problem that started about a week ago. On Digital P-25 audio only, the scanner will start to decode the audio, then the audio gets static building up, before finally completly going away. The scanner is still receiving a broadcast, because you can see the Talkgroup and current frequency still on the screen, but the audio is not there. I was running 1.4 of the DSP, but tried reverting to the scanner default built in of 1.3 with no luck. The pain of it all is that it's not doing it all the time, seems to be just when it feels like not fully decoding audio. I've made a recording so you can hear it, First is some standard VHF WX channel audio, works just fine with all analog audio, then two different trunked P25 systems, local FD/PD/etc trunked P25 then state wide P-25 VHF Trunked.

The worst part of the whole debacle is I no longer have a readable radio shack recipt :( the writing on the thermal paper has faded away...Am I out of luck with my 2096?

I have a couple 2096's myself and I can tell you that they like other GRE built scanners have a selectivity issue. Any close or high powered transmitters like a pager, another 800mz trunked system or an FM station etc. can and will de-sense or cause noise. I am guessing this maybe your problem but it does seem strange it just started. I have the similar problem if I don't run a notch filter. Have you tried an inside antenna or the attenuator to see if it helps?

Well as far as distance from the tower, i'd say by the crow flies probably 2 miles, mostly flat land, no elevations above 20-25 feet.

Using the standard RS 800Mhz antenna, with a "L" BNC bracket to make the antenna come up vertical off the back of the scanner, rather than horizontal right out the back. I also tried removing the "L" adapter, with no success.

I will try looking into inside the scanner to see if the BNC is messed up, but I don't think it really is considering I get really good analog VHF signals with no distortion or drop in sound.

Try turning AGC off - FUNC + MAN

Well gave in today, after different trials of turning on and off the AGC and att, with no luck, even popped open the back of the scanner and checked out the BNC but everything looked secure. So it's off to Fort Worth TX with my 2096 hopefully to return in a few weeks repaired. Thankfully it's still under warranty! Thanks for everyones advice!
