Have a question regarding sensitivity on this radio.. I am using the Pro-2096 where I used to have a BC-796D. the radio(s) are hooked up to a scanner antenna 50' up on a TV tower. My predicament is this..... certain VHF High freq.s that came in very good on the 796D, come in marginally on the 2096. I did activate the attenuator, and that did help on "some" VHF channels. My VHF low UHF and Trunked 800 reception is excellent. Why am I having problems with receiving certain stations when I did not before?

This has been bugging me..... :?

Any help or input will be greatly appreciated!

thanks in advance,
john

I have dead spots with the 2096 where I usually don't. This includes VHF/and "800 digital". I also had this problem with the PRO-96. I use a 796 daily on a digital system and have been using the 2096 in its spot for several weeks. Where the digital system I listen to usually cuts out has been cutting out and digitizing several miles sooner, and where I usually pickup VHF full quieting with my 796 is scratchy with the PRO-2096.

The 2096 is mounted in my vehicle in place of the 796 so it is using the exact same antenna. I don't see my 2096 being permanent in my vehicle anytime soon.

In my house with the 2096 and 796 sitting side by side split from the same antenna, and monitoring the same digital system, the 796 will pickup transmissions and the 2096 will sometimes miss transmissions.

I am out in the boonies away from any intermod, but am going to be trying it out against my 796 in some city conditions sometime maybe in the next weekend or so.

Hello,

I have no reception issues with the PRO 2096. I use a Stridsberg Multicoupler and 800 MHz Yagi. A BC796D and BC780XLT are connected and all three units run at the same time. The PRO 2096 even tunes VHF Low frequencies from good distances using the Yagi which is not tuned for the band.

The 780 will outperform the 796 and 2096. However, the 796 and 2096 perform just as good with the described setup. I am pleased with the performance of the 2096.

If turning on the attenuator helped some, then it is an overload problem. The 2096 is more sensitive to it than the 796D either due to increased sensitivity or a more broad front end. Are there any VHF paging transmitters nearby?
