I asked for a thumbnail list of diffs a few weeks ago and got some valuable feedback. You may want to search the forums for that and decide if you can live without the features for the price differential.

My wife bought me the PRO-528 this morning, and so far it seems like a nice scanner. She really supports my hobby!

I am working on programming it to compare the reception of this scanner to that of my others. I do like the feel of the new scanner, I like the balance. With the speaker at the bottom, it feels better than the PRO-97, which felt as if it is top heavy because the speaker is close to the top. I'll post my comments in a few hours.

Purchase the new scanner, and if you don't like it you can get a refund.

Let's not forget to mention the Pro-528 DOES NOT support CTCSS PL tones...

I picked up a PRO 528 this morning at 6AM for $99. I was #16 in line, but the people ahead of me wanted other items, so I was the only one for the scanner. I got to program 2 trunked systems before I had to go to work, and so far I like it. It has a good feel and I like how you can do a police service search with the 470 & 500 band included finally. Plus, I prefer the Uniden signal stalker to the PRO 97. I will give it the full test tonight when I get settled home. Even though it lacks alpha tags and DCS/CTCSS, a 1000 trunking scanner for $99 is a steal.

I was one of the 6am crew also. I was in commando-shop mode (one shop-one kill) since I hate the mall. Was in and out in less than 3 minutes. It's a good thing I went early as it appears I got the only 528 they had.

Pro 528

I just got one this p.m. I put in some vhf air freqs, and one trs. (broward county fl.) So far so good. On air band it needs the whip (smiley 270a) but reception and audio are good, and on the trs, with whip and shack 800 duck, no problems. I'll leave soon for Fll to test for intermod at the airport. I'll be back. P.S. for $100 it should be an ok spare while my BC 245 recharges.

There is a Yahoo group for the 528 & 433 that may be helpful.

Dose any body know how to figure out the lcn for ltr on this scanner

You should find it in the database. The LCN is the small number in front of the frequency.

It is my understanding only the 'real RS stores had the sale items, on sale.

I think franchise stores did not honor the sale which sucks cause that's all we got here... I'd had to driven 40 miles to have got a 528.

I still like my Pro-97. Maybe I'll get a 528 when I have more fundage..

I just picked one up as a Xmas present for my nephew. He is 11 and, though the scanner is lacking in many features, it should make a nice starter radio for him. He lives close enough to receive a few analog systems. Also will put in the vhf/uhf ham repeaters which might help spike some interest there. I'll have to figure out how to program it so that I can have it ready to go Xmas morning.

Program in a 2M/70cm simplex frequency into the scanner you bought for him for Christmas and place the scanner, paused on that frequency in his stocking.

When he goes to the stocking, to retrieve it, go hise and get on your handie talkie and act like Santa Clause telling him to enjoy his new toy.. HaHa..

Little Christmas magic there maybe...

Picked up one at noon today at the Colonial Mall in Myrtle Beach SC. for $99.99. Saved an additional $5.00 .No sales tax in SC on ANYTHING, including automobiles ,yesterday and today. R.S. mgr. was very knowledgeable.
