Newbie here, I've already searched the forum and fear this won't be an easy answer.

I just want to scan the Public Safety band, the group 1 frequencies. Is this even possible? I've searched for the band I want and have figured how to eliminate the bands i don't want. My intuitive self want to just save this setting and then scan it but thats not working for me so I need to know the steps to do that. Any thoughts, directions to a YouTube or a page that explains the programming better would be appreciated.

I have found my way to this page (Easier to Read Pro-106/197/PSR500/600 Digital Scanner Manual search) which has helped some but still haven't broken the code.

Thx in advance for your help.

Many Public Safety Groups

raythepa,

There are a great many public safety groups in Cuyahoga County. Some are part of Trunk Systems such as Clevelands GCRCN P25 system or the MARCS-IP system. Others use a group of frequencies, some on the VHF band (Cuyahoga Valley, Brooklyn Hts, Cuyahoga Hts, etc..) and still other on UHF bands (Southeast group, Garfield Hts, Maple Hts. etc..)

So the first question to be answered is, who do you want to monitor?

Thx for the quick reply Bud,

Actually, I'm in Lorain County right on the Cuyahoga line. So I'm really looking at Lorain County public services (Lorain County, Ohio (OH) Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference), the band range is in the 150 - 170 range.

Trying to do this by just using the softkeys but thinking maybe i should get the cable and download a software program. I'm not a dummy but have spent about 2 hrs on this w/o any resolution.

Thinking I can make and "object" out of the band I want and then just have it scanned but I'm guessing this statement alone shows how far off base I am with how to do this.

Im not exactly sure what your asking but I will take a stab at it.

Press SRCH until Pub Safety displays. You may have to press several times.
The format reads something like this:
Pub Safety 0 1 2 3 4

That means the scanner will search all the public safety bands (which would take a few minutes with all of them activated).
0= 30.8 - 47.6
1= 151 - 173
2= 453 - 468
3= 764 - 797
4= 851 - 869

Press the corresponding number to turn on/off the bands. A single . means that band is off. If you only wanted band 3 on then it would look like this:
Pub Safety . . . 3 .
The scanner will automatically save which bands you have on or off.

The range displayed in the bands above does not mean it goes through all of the steps between that range. It skips some in between but I cant remember exactly what. If you want all steps in between that range see the next.

Another option is to create a search object. You set the range you want to search and assign it to a scanlist. When you turn that scanlist on it will search the range you selected along with any other items you have in that scanlist. Im not sure how you set this through the scanner's menus but it is easily found in the scanner programming software.

This helps, actually reaffirms the steps I've been taking. I'm good with what you've said until the last 2 paragraphs and I'll sort that in the morning when I try to take another stab at it. I'm thinking you're right along the lines of creating an object. I think if I can create one it will show up in my primary line (top line) when I scan and that it will cycle through all of the possibilities within that band.

I'll post more when i get it figured out, thx!
