Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone had some tips for me here. I recently moved to an apartment and have a Verizon cell tower right outside my window by maybe a few hundred feet. My live feed scanner is receiving a lot of interference and the audio is very choppy. My set up is a Pro-668 scanner scanning the 800mhz band with a radio shack 800mhz antenna. Any help is appreciated.

I have the WS1080 which is nearly the same thing. I too have a cell tower barely 250 ft away AND it's at 2nd story level, not a very tall tower. The local Fire Station is 2 doors down from that with several tower structures and plenty of antennas and other things on it too. I couldn't receive the trunked system here at all unless I was away from the apartment. Choppy reception at best. I found by attenuating on the EZSCAN software *the offending SITE itself* that had interference seemed to work better. After that I experimented with RS800 antennas which let me get it ok just hanging in the window. But even that has problems on certain days. The thing that worked best was a 700mhz/800mhz Yagi directional antenna and aim it at the closest tower. I used my Radio Shack Pro96 to do that while paused on manual for the control channel to watch the % of reception. Same can be done with the Pro668 or WS1080 by hooking it up to the Yagi and aiming it so the "T" shows up solid on the screen. The Yagi has solved any problems I have, I get the Trunked system AND the "D2" TDMA traffic in perfectly. I bought my Yagi at Scanner Master back when it was $99.00 The same one NOW is $139.00! what are they doing over there with the prices lately? Anyway. Your answer might be the Yagi especially if you're a feed provider.

Thank you for the replies everyone. I messed around with the attenuation a bit but it didn't really help. I eventually will get the yagi antenna but I don't have money for it at the moment. I did test the antenna I use on my uniden that I got from scanner master and it helped so I ordered the bnc version of the antenna so we will see if it helps for now.
