Is the PRO668 same as WS1080? I need Phase 2. If yes, where get firmware updates and software do I check RS or Whistler? Does anyone know if the RS stores now stock the PRO668?

As far as anyone can tell, the Pro-668 is the twin of the WS1080 (fraternal twin of the PSR-800). RadioShack is making claims on their website that it can do Phase II, so I would expect it to handle Phase II unless they wanted to resort to lying about their products. I don't know if you would be getting everything with the RadioShack product however. It has happened in the past that some accessory included with the Whistler/GRE products was considered an extra for the RadioShack product and required a separate purchase. It appears that they included a USB interface cable this time around, so I cannot think of anything that might be missing.

Firmware for Pro-668 is developed and delivered to RadioShack by Whistler. The updates for the Pro-668 would then be released by RadioShack at a time of their choosing to the end user. It could take any length of time for this to happen (it has taken upwards of a year before if I remember correctly). It is very important to note to never try to update your firmware with a version not specifically meant for your scanner. There are already plenty of posts that can be found floating around with people turning their scanner into a brick because they were under the impression that all scanners that look the same are the same.

As for being in stock, it seems that most RadioShack stores have them in stock according to their website (for my area at least).

Seems this is what is missing: Power Device: Battery & AC adapter - both sold separately

Could someone kindly advise where they have found this scanner? I have used the zip code/city search within 100 miles of my residence in Philadelphia, PA, and have found 0. I also tried 100 mile searches using west coast and central US zip codes, all with negative results. When I tried RS 800 number, they were of no help either. Any info would be great. Thanks.

I a bit confused myself. I thought I saw some were in stock in my local area, but I ran the search again and it's only showing Ship to Store as an option. I might have been mistaken when I ran the search the first time. I have tried several other zip codes I tried previously and they are also all showing no actual in store stock. Perhaps they have not been officially sold anywhere as of yet.

These have not gotten to RS Warehouse yet Still in transit but the store I buy from has gotten the Conformation from RS warehouse that mine will be shipped when it arrives. Was told due date to the warehouse was 12/24/2014. My guess would be after the 1st of the year with Holidays and stock inventory having to be done.

I and many others here have had their scanners damaged by using the wall wart (A/C adapter). Power surges can cause the damage. It's rare, but why take the chance? I use several sets of NiMH batteries and a charger.

Are the RS versions feature-starved like the previous models were? (missing recording and other features compared to the OEM version)

I havn't seen any docs on it yet . I work for and the product info and manuals are not on our portal yet . I am assuming that they will be the same as the 1080 . As soon as I find out I will post .

Wouldn't this be for anything that is plugged into AC and not just a scanner???
