I am thinking about buying a PRO-90 off of eBay and have some questions about it. First, will I be able to scan the Ocean County Public Safety TRS with it, the TRS is a Motorola Type II Smartnet. Second, will I be able to lock out specific talkgroups with the PRO-90? Thanks in advance.

How much is this PRO-90 going to cost you? I would just go out and pick up a new PRO-95 since they are on clearance.

I apologize in advance if any of this information you already know.

The PRO-90 was Radio Shack's first dabble into Trunk Tracking Scanners. I have one that I am looking at right now. I believe it was actually made by Uniden for Radio Shack.

You cannot trunk track and scan conventional systems at the same time with it. In addition to that you cannot trunk track multiple systems at the same time either.

Unless you want it for conventional services (which based on your thread I do not think you do) I agree with dubbin and would look for a PRO-95 on clearance at R/S or find a comparable Uniden if that is your preference.

Hope this helps

How about the PRO-91? I can only spend about $75 US.

No problem on the edit Dubbin.

I am not familiar with the PRO 91 so I cannot provide you any information on that particular receiver.

If the system you want to primarily scan is not digital for the 50 bucks more the PRO-95 is a great little receiver if you can find one at you neighborhhood R/S. For under $130 bucks you cannot go wrong.

I looked in the R/R Database and I see lots of conventional frequencies for Ocean Co. I do not want to speculate on the ability of the PRO-91 serving your needs on the TRS, sorry.

Hope this helps

You can use this chart to compare them.

Thanks, but that doesn't say if I can listen to conventional and trunked systems and the same time. Also, it says that the PRO-90 and PRO-91 can only trunk on 800 MHz TRSes. Is this true? Some listings that I saw on eBay say that the PRO-90 and/or PRO-91 can trunk on VHF TRSes also.

EDIT: Read it again, it says it can't trunk and scan at the same time. Looks like the PRO-92 is the lowest I can get.

Well, if you can get one for $50 bucks or less go for it, don't pay over $50. I own 2 (and a 2067) and the last one I bought I got from RS when it was on closeout for $35 + Tax. They work pretty well, but inquire before you bid as to what revision radio it is. If it a Pro-92A or Pro-92B go ahead, if it is the original Pro-92, don't even pay $50 for it. (Thats the one I got for $35 brand new from RS.)

Good look. I wouldn't count on finding one on ebay for that. You might want to check you local pawn and junk shops if you want one that price. I found a site where you could buy a BC-E for $50. The BC-E is a scanner that plugs into your 8 Track deck, this should tell you how old it is.
