I have a PRO-95 model which I am able to program via the WIN95 software and the RS 20-047 USB-Scanner cord. My nephew fell in love with the thing (his dad is a firefighter) so I found an inexpensive used PRO-92 online for him to play with. I have downloaded the WIN92 software, converted my *.P95 file to *.SPG by using the WIN converter and have verified that the RS 20-047 cable should work with the PRO-92. My problem is that plugging the cable into the PRO-92 does not automatically open CLONE mode as it does with the PRO-95. I reinstalled the cable driver and this did not help. Is there a way to manually open CLONE mode on the PRO-92 or perhaps do some sort of hard reset to get things back to factory settings? Worst case is that there is something wrong with the PC/IF jack on the PRO-92 which won't allow any sort of communication with my PC. Thank you in advance for any information. Charles, Denton TX.

If you are using WIN92 to program the scanner, IGNORE what is displayed by the scanner when you plug the cable in. Use the "upload" and "download" functions in WIN92 to talk to the scanner.

There are actually 3 versions of the 92.

When you turn it on and push the 3 the version number is shown. If I recall they are:

1.00
3.21
3.28

You can also tell be the part number. The first one had no square with either and A or B in it after the part number.

3.21 (A) and 3.28 (B) are essentially same firmware. One is made in China and other made in Japan. V1 is Japan.

The CAT NO. on the back of the case is 20-522 B (with a square around the B) and pressing "3" at power-on shows 3.28 so now I know what I am working with.

Using WIN92 V00.46 I ignored what was on the scanner display and selected "upload to scanner". The orange light on the cable was on while the data was being transferred so it looks like everything on the PC and cable side are working.

When I selected the "verify scanner" option there seems to be no communication from the scanner itself. The upload will not work (i.e. no orange light from the cable and error messages from WIN92) unless I deselect the "readback" option in the configuration area of WIN92.

When trying to perform the readback verification after upload I get the following:
"Looking for 01 98 03 52"
"Failed"
"Timed out waiting for the 01 98 03 52 sequence"

When using the "verify scanner" option from WIN92 I get the following:
"Expected to read back the data we just wrote - this failed. Ensure the correct COM port is selected, a supported cable is attached to the COM port and the scanner, and the scanner is turned ON"

The error that follows reads:
"Verify failed. Your scanner's data may be invalid"

I have verifed the COM port settings by use of WIN95 and the PRO-95 scanner. It seems that there is an issue with the PRO-92 scanner's ability to "talk" back?

I verified the com port using the PRO95 (WIN95) and made sure that the readback feature was not selected on PRO92 (WIN92) with the same port as used to communicate with the PRO95 (WIN95). I can manually work the PRO92 fine. It is the PC connection via the PC/IF using the RS 20-047 USB-Scanner cable that is the problem. Looks to me like there is an issue with the scanner port on the PRO92?
