I have a Pro-93 scanner where the LCD screen suddenly stopped working (the backlight still works). I've determined from other post I need to try reinitializing the scanner. I previously purchased a radio shack cable and downloaded the win93 software. Problem is I can't get the program to download my frequencies from my scanner. On ports 1 and 2 I get the error "unable to open the port:\\.\COM1". if i select a port 2 or larger i get "expected to read back the data we just wrote - this failed. ensure the correct COM port is selected, a supported cable is attached to the COM port and the scanner, and the scanner is turned on" I am running this on windows vista.

Might need the mono jack on the end of the USB cable. Also did you try adjusting the contrast on the keypad? There were problems with the 93 that would zero it out and give you a blank screen.

Are you using a COM port or a USB cable? If the USB cable, go into Device Manager to see what COM port the cable is assigned to; then go into WIN93 and set to that COM port.

You do not need the pigtail on the end of the cable for the PRO-93.

Regarding the LCD contrast; have you tried to manually adjust the contrast? Sometimes that setting gets cleared and the display essentially has no contrast.
