Pro-94 Help..Im sort of a Noob

First, I would like to say thanks for any help.

I have a Radio Shack Pro-94 and I am having troubles getting it to work. Dont get me wrong, I can figure out how to make plain frequencies work, its the trunked stuff that is giving me troubles.

I am near Enterprise Alabama if that helps get me some frequencies to use.

Can anyone tell he exactly how to load trunked signals?

Again, thanks for the help.

Edit: Welcome to the forum.

If this is the system you are trying to setup, it can't be monitored.
Code:
System Name:	Southern Company LINC 800 MHz (Alabama)
Location:	Various, AL
County:	Statewide
System Type:	iDEN Standard
System Voice:	iDEN TDMA

If this is the system, it can be monitored.
Code:
System Name:	State of Alabama

County:	Statewide
System Type:	EDACS Networked Standard
System Voice:	Analog

However, which of the towers on this page can you pick up?
http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=TRSDB&sid=373
And if you can pick up one of them, program that towers frequencies in the order listed by that tower. If the above system is not available in your area, you have no trunked systems which I can find either in Coffee or Dale County.

Thanks for the info.

So I guess what you are saying is that there isnt any reason for me to know how to load a trunked system into this Pro-94 because there arent any in my area?

What about Fort Rucker, AL?

When I was at Fort Stewart there was a trunked system.

I really never figured out how to make the trunking part work.

Which is what I need help with. Making it work.

I looked for Ft Rucker in my earlier search and couldn't find anything. They are not on this exclusion (by request) list either. http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=16
Thus they are either not trunked or no one has ever mapped the system. You can run a search on the 400/500 frequencies to see if you can hear a Control Channel. Most (not all) of the military trunked systems are digital so the 94 won't be able to monitor if they are.

I have scanned the Stewart system a couple of times when in the area.

Again, I am very new to this Trunking thing. You asked which of these towers can I pick up?

I have no idea what or how to look for these. Can you please tell me how to do this. Again, I am using a Pro-94.

Do a limit SEARCH starting with 856.0000 for the low end and 861.0000 for the upper end. IF the scanner stops on a freq and has a weird noise, write that freq down and continue the search until complete. Check any freqs which you have written down against those on the listing which is on my link for the State of Alabama.

If any match, you have an LCN which you can program in a scanner bank as EDACS.

I got a few hits in that range, but it was mostly static with faint background tones. Non of those freqs matched any on the list.

I am traveling this next week. Here are some frequncies that are in the area where I will be.

System Frequencies
Red* are Primary Control Channels, Blue* are alternate control channels

Site Description Freqs
001 Primary 856.76250 857.76250* 858.76250* 859.76250* 860.76250*

The first in black and the last 4 are in red. I got the freqs from this site.

How do I set these up so that I can see the talk group and follow a conversation?

Just program the 5 frequencies in a bank and scan in ID SEARCH mode. Or also enter the ID's into the scan list and Scan in ID SCAN mode.

What system is it?

It would help if I knew how to load a ID. I can load the freqs into a "bank". As for the ID, that part I am a little behind on.

The freqs are from Jacksonville Beach, Florida

Review this section in your owners manual Manually Storing Talk Group IDs in Talk Group Lists. It's on page 48 in my PDF version of the manual, but may be on another page in your manual.

Thanks for the help.

I will be in Jacksonville Florida this weekend, Can anyone give me detailed instructions on how to load these freqs into my Pro-94 so that I can listen to a specific talk group?

Here are the freqs:

http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=TRSDB&sid=739

The Instruction book is a little unclear to me. As in which buttons to puch and when. Then how do I look for a specific group.

Again, I will be there this weekend.

On your link to the Jax database, look under Mode for the system talkgroups. Only those with A can be heard with the 94. The rest are either digital D or encrypted E. The D or E can't be monitored with the 94.

Warrior, do you see all the "E"s and "D"s in the talkgroup list? Those are encrypted groups (can't be monitored) and digital groups (can't be received with a Pro-94). The only groups you'll be able to hear are the "A" groups, Citywide, EOC. some city services, MED 6 and 8, PEOs, parks, PW ... PD and fire aren't among them. But ...

(Off the top of my head - read the manual) when you're programming the bank, set it to MOT. When you're programming one of the frequencies, set it to MOT. Set the bank to open and let it scan. You'll hear all the talk groups the 94 can decode - plus digital noise on those it can't. Try this page for a much better written manual. It's on one page, so you can copy it, paste it into Word and print it if you prefer.

Jax beach, as indicated in the heading of the database page, is all analog and as stated before, can be monitored with your scanner. In the This Page link provided by Al42, click on Programming a Motorola Type II System and use E-2 800 setup.
