Has anyone tapped the Discriminator output on a Pro-95? If so how easy was it. I have no knowledge of electronics (except how to fry stuff) and was wondering if a total newbie could do this. I've decided to use t4win so that I don't have to build a decoder interface circuit. Any help on the subject would be appricated. Also some good pics would help. Thanks in advance.

rsaylor_78,

Welcome to the group!

Tapping the discrininator is really easy to do on the Pro-95 because there is pleanty of case space, and you will not need to cut/hack/stuff/break/modify the printer circuit board.

I belive that there a link somewhere buried in amongst all these posts that will detail the process.

I was able to do it using the information on here that someone mentioned when I asked a while back. It's discussing the Pro-93, but they are nearly the same scanner.

Thanks

Crayon, Thanks for the welcome.

alltwist77, Awsome!!! Thanks. That's exactly what I needed. I got all the equipment at the house and I tried earlier, but couldn't find TP4. Now I know. I'll try to get this up and running in the morning.

Thanks again to both of you.

I looked at the pics and instructions from the link above and I noticed that he used a resistor where he tapped TP4. When I tapped the discriminator in my 92 for use with T4Win I did not use a resistor anywhere; I just soldered the wire directly to it. Why is the resistor needed for the 93? Is it because of the slicer that's needed for trunker which isn't needer for T4Win or is it because of the differences between the 92 and 93 which causes the 93 to need a resistor?

The discriminator output was never designed to be connected to remote devices (PC, data slicer, etc) through long cables. A resistor should always be used to isolate the discriminator from outside noise pickup and possible short circuits. This is true for every scanner regardless of model number.

pro 95

I have a pro 95 and am thinking about trying this mod. After I put in the dicriminator tap, where do I go from here?Do I plug it in the mic of my laptop or do I need a data slicer.I'm kind of lost as to hooking up my scanner to the computer whether it hooks up by the mic,com1,telephone jack. Will this work with a laptop or do I need a computer tower?I've tried to find more info in the forums. But I need the basics..I enjoy scanning, but I'd like to try something different.By basics I mean are there a lot of different ways to hook up to computer? To all the scanning masters who reply to us newbies thank you,I for one appreciate your time.

I'm a newbie too. With this in mind, this is what I have found out.

If you use T4Win (Trunker for Windows) you do not need a data slicer. You just connect the tap to a mic in or line in on your pc.

If you use Trunker you need a data slicer. If you use a serial port, it has to be COM1-COM4. If you use Win 2000 or XP, you need 2 serial ports if you want to track the audio with a second scanner. USB to serial converters are tricky in Win XP. If you have a laptop with no serial ports, a pmcia serial adapter is probably the best way to go.

Thanks

Thanks, Lou. I think this is a great site, and you are one of the people who make it that way.

I just finished tapping my P95, the link above seems to be dead now, but looking at crayon's note in this thread it was easy:

http://www.radioreference.com/modul...amp;t=16594&highlight=pro95+discriminator

As a side note, the P95 decodes the control channel at 99% where my BC780 only got it at around 50%.. Not sure why except the P95 is a newer scanner.
