I am totaly new with Pro 95. I ve read the manuel over and over and i am still doing something wrong after entering the (ED) trunk 800 freqs. I do hear some talk, but I mostly hear a lot of beeps and buzzing sounds. Do I need to use the "trunk button" while entering in the freqs? I am useing the win program. Ive been down loading the freqs to my scanner after typing in the freqs.in my pc. (Riverside California Co. Sheriff) I did put the freqs in LCN too. When do i use the HEX, DEC, and AFS? That is another one i can not figure out. I am tried of banging my head against the wall. Can some one out there just give me a 1,2,3 simple instruction to help me out? And yes, I have even gone to the "easier to read manual"in the web. Please Help......... Thank you .........Ed e-mail (ETR1STCAV@AOL.COM)

Well, don't bang too hard, it causes a ringing in the ears.

The most common mistake people with a GRE (Radio Shack) scanner make when entering EDACS systems is in regard to the LCN setup. You state you put them in LCN order, and I am sure you did, but did you put them in the correct LCN? In otherwords when you look at the Riverside County Pub Safety system on the site here did you will notice there are little (very little) numbers next to each frequency. That is the LCN. For example, Site 1 (Northwest) says frequency 866.2125 is LCN 01. That means if you were programming this site into Bank 1 of your Pro-95 it would go into frequency slot 101. LCN 02 would go into 102, etc. The mistake most people make is they start putting frequencies in the first slot (like 100) and then just go up from there.

Two rules for EDACS and LTR type (which the 95 cannot do) are:
1. Put frequencies in the correct slot by number.
2. Don't assume all systems start with LCN 01 and don't assume they go up in numerical order, they may skip numbers.

As to pressing the <TRUNK> button when putting in frequencies, no that is not how GRE radios are programmed. Besides, using Win95 means you shouldn't have to press anything on the radio at all. Just make sure that when you program the frequencies they are each set as EDACS and the overall bank setting is EDACS so that it knows how to trunk. (BTW, if you enter any conventional frequencies in the bank you can set them to FM if you like.)

As for the DEC, HEX, AFS, it is easier to program in DECimal numbers,so do all of your programming in them. On EDACS systems it is usually easier to scan in AFS, so do that. HEX is never used except for the programming of radios (not really scanners) so unless you are a real "bit head", leave that alone.

Hope this helps. :)

Lou,

Thanks for the help. I just purchased a Pro-95 a couple of days ago and it has been working great on Motorola systems but wasn't working for squat on the EDACS. Your information has clear this up, now I can enjoy the EDACS on the go. It was driving me crazy because I was sitting next to my eTrunker setup and I wasn't picking up anything on the Pro-95.

Thanks again,
Steve.

Yes it is. I was about to start banging my head against the wall like ETR. And this setup is a whole lot more portable than my eTrunker setup.

I just got a 95 too. The one thing I hate is that there is no FAST way to get to an ID. If I here the dispatch say go fireground 3, it takes way too long to get there. It does receive & hold the control channel much better than my Pro94.

I found a REALLY nice feature with the Pro-95 yesterday at lunch totally by accident. I have 3 trunk systems I listen to, one is where I live and the other two are where I work. I had listened to the one from home, which is on bank 1, on my way into work. At lunch I wanted to turn that bank off and bank 0 on so I could listen to the other system. I turned the radio on, hit 0 to turn bank 0 on and then I hit 1 to turn bank 1 off and much to my surprise the display said, "Please standby, Initializing". So, needless to say, I didn't listen to the radio at lunch. I guess you need to wait for the radio to finish booting up before pushing any buttons.

Yes, you do, initializing just resets the settings in the scanner, but I don't think it erases the channels. Just don't press 0 and 2 on start up, you will lose all of your info.

I'm just learning too, but I know that is how you change the backlight time & some other features.

Check page 83 (PDF version) of the PRO-95 Owner's Manual:

INITIALIZING THE SCANNER
1. Turn off the scanner, then turn it on again. Welcome To Dual Trunking appears. !
2. Press 0 then 1 while Welcome To Dual Trunking appears. Initializing Please Wait. appears for about 2 seconds.

and:

Initializing the Scanner
This procedure clears all information you stored in the scanner's memory. Initialize the scanner only when you are sure the scanner is not working properly.

The 0 then 2 sequence loads test frequencies, and is also destructive.

I guess I need to slow down and have a little more patience. I'm use to my other scanners that they are ready to go when you turn them on. Now all I need to do is make a programming cable so then next time I forget and do the same thing, it will be easier to get it back to where I had it.

Hmmm, I know of no trunk tracking scanner that does not have an "Opening Sequence". Making a cable is one option, buying one is another and based on my time and parts cost, I'd go the buy route. :D

I was speaking of my non-trunking scanners. This is the first trunking scanner that I've owned. I've been trunk tracking with Trunker & eTrunker with a Pro-2026 and Pro-2035/OS535. You have to be holding the reset key sequence before you turn them on because with in a second or two they are running.

I stand corrected, I guess I should've looked it up in the manuel first, but I thought I was right  . Disregaurd my last post!
