Hi everyone,

I'd like to give one of my two Pro-96 scanners to a friend, but the display is not working. When I opened the scanner, I noticed that the small ribbon cable that connects the LCD display from the circuit board had come out. I tried to reinsert the cable, but it won't stay seated or make a connection. Is there any way to fix this? I know parts for this radio are nearly non-existent. Thanks.

should be a thin plastic piece the width plus tad more across ribbon cable connecter sockey. you use anything like a toothpick to hold it up,slide ribbon cable in connecter seated to bottom out ,then push thin plastic piece down. should snap in place. unless it got lost. look closely at other end of ribbon cable very closely. it should have same part holding it in place

Thanks, guys.. That's very helpful. I'll take it apart again this week and see what's what. I don't think it broke off. We do have a hot glue gun here, if needed.

If the cable isn't serviceable, you might just remove the entire cable and replace it--assuming you can find a size w/ suitable number of pins that's close to the original:

I've used @buddrousa 's idea when the ribbon cable end clamp had broken--worked like a charm to keep it in place!
Thanks! Good tip. My other Pro-96 still works great. If I can repair this one, I'd like to give it to a retired LAPD-Lt buddy of mine.

Update: I opened the case and examined the LCD ribbon cable connection. The cable looks to be beyond repair. I'll check the source that Lebrunmn suggested. Otherwise, I'll keep it for parts for my other Pro-96 that still works great.

A couple of questions: 1. Do any RS scanners use the same LCD and ribbon cable as the Pro-96? 2. Are there still any sources for RS parts?
