So it looks like "Santa" will be bringing me a pro 96 this year. I have a dumb question or two so bear with me.

using Win 96 to program it. When I import lets say the tower Arapahoe county SO is on, will it just import the CC? Or will it import all the CC for that tower?

Also is there a limit to how many talk groups you can lock out? Lets say I want to listen to Greenwood Village PD. I have no need to want to hear the public works side, can I lock them all out?

Thanks for your time in advance, and happy holidays Colorado Forum!

I can't answer your question about the import feature, however regarding your TG lockout question...
If you know you're not going to want to listen to a certain TG, you can just delete it out of the Win96 software prior to uploading it to your scanner. This frees up that spot for another TG you may want to listen to. Also, if you only want to listen to certain TG's on any system, make sure you have that bank in the "closed" mode, and not the "open" mode.
In any case, you can lockout all the TG's if you want to.

With win96 you can lock-out any talkgroups you want. You just click on a box next to the talkgroup you want to lock out.

Right I would think it's something like pro 97 witch I use to program my Pro 97 and 2055. But I also know from other threads in the forum that I only need to put in one CC on the Pro 96, and so I am wondering if Win 96 does that, or if I have to do that manually. Does that make more sense?

Also is there another program out there to program pro 96's? If so what would you all suggest I use..

Why download directly from RR Charles that can get pretty overwhelming many of us have metro area win96 files that I'm sure you could use to get your radio up and running, even better if you get it thru Erik he provides free on the spot programming to valued customers!

Good advice Jim! Getting a radio from Erik is a great value. Excellent radio and excellent support, you can't beat that anywhere! Erik has helped me many times and it is appreciated.

When you use the import feature, you can pick and choose what you want loaded and what you want omitted.

Depending on what area you want to monitor you import the tower(s) for those areas.

Is there a list somewhere that says who uses what tower? or do you just load all the towers in what ever county you want to listen too

When you import talk groups from RR using Win 96, is there a way to edit what is displayed before you import? Or is that something you have to go back and do manually?

If your asking about editing the alpha tag before download, you need to do that after it's downloaded. If you want to only download certain TG's those can be selected before you download.

To each his own, but downloading from the RR database is pretty overwhelming, at least regarding the number of CC's and TG's you get; I've personally found it much easier to just create my own Win96, or Win500 files.

Not completely sure but I know that North Metro Fire will use them as a fireground channel inside buildings where radio coverage isn't great. Then the Captain(I think it's the captain) outside will relay to dispatch. It's basically a channel that is used between radios, instead of a radio having to bounce off a tower then back to the radios on that channel. Someone correct me if I'm wrong!

Provides an additional storage space, especially helpful if you travel frequently or already have filled your 10 banks.

Virtual Scanner

The PRO-96 introduces a new feature called "V-Scanner" (Virtual Scanner). The scanner has 11 separate configuration profiles stored in "folders," only one of which is active at a time. Each folder stores all of the operating settings, not only channels and talkgroups but lockout status, display contrast settings, and so on. Names up to 12 characters long can be assigned to each folder. Each folder has 500 channels. The idea is that you can set up a different folder for, say, each geographic location you might travel to, and by loading the correct folder your scanner is immediately able to start scanning the appropriate frequencies.

Has anyone here done the Firmware update? I think it's 1.4, if so does it make a difference?
