Hi there,

Anyone that could help me, it was about a year ago that a purchased a Pro-96 degital scanner.

I was wondering if anyone that has had a Pro-96 scanner for over a year around Christmas time, if there was a rechargeable cartridge in as an accessary?

It was a year later and decided to start charging batteries and as a dummy, thought I used the black cartridge. I have to use the yellow cartrdige to charge batteries.

Problem is, I have no idea if I had one as an accessary or did I have to purchse the yellow cartridge?

I purchased rechargeable batteries for about $20.00 from Radio Shack and found out later, to order a yellow catridge for charging batteries would be around $60 for the cartridge (Rediculous) in a years time, they changed the cartridge?

Any help?

I guess that I have rechargeable batteries at home that I cannot use now

Live and learn,

Pro 96 Battery Holder

The yellow battery holder came with the radio in the box. You should have a black, not for recharging & yellow for rechargable batteries only.

I don't know who told you that the battery holder was that much, but it is $5.99 plus shipping (or at least was last time I checked, like a week ago).

Here is the part number:
12228805 HOLDER ASSY FOR RECHG. BTRY'S $5.99

By the way, several RS scanners use this same pack including the Pro-89. However, if I were you I would scan some of the threads (try search) dealing with recharging batteries inside of the scanner.

Somewhere in this room. Right now, you're very col
Go to your local WallyFart and get one of these. Charge those batteries up in an hour. Best $20 you'll ever spend. Includes the 4 batteries in the picture. I have two, one for the office and one for home use.

EDIT: They also sell 4 2500Mah cells for $15. I can run my PRO96 all day on a set. An 8 pack is about $27. I have a bunch of them, my scanner never stays dead for long.

That's not entirely accurate.

The yellow holder is the only one you can RECHARGE cells in. You can use any cells in it as long as you do not use the external power plug.

You can use anything in the black one with no concerns.

While the Duracell charger is a little more expensive, the packs of 4 AA 2500's are only $10... That's what I use. It also recharges all four in only an hour...

Yesterday I bought an 8 pack of 2500MA NI/MH energizer batteries at Sam's club for $15.82. They have been raising the capacity every few months--started out at 2100MA; now 2500MA

if you recharge your batteries in the radio be sure the wall wart puts out six volts (4 aa batteries @ 1.5vdc each) and, just because i was so lucky, the output was also about half the mah rating on the batteries i use. they are 2300 mah bats so the 1000 mah charges them well in six or seven hours in my 96....

the wall wart says not to use it as a charger but it has worked very well everyday since early may 2004 and the batteries have stayed nice a cool and not over charged..... i use two of the wally world chargers (from AZScanner's post) to charge the batteries i use in my pro 92--don't have a charging holder for that radio (can't get one from rat shack either). when that radio dies i take all the batteries out (from the 92 and 96) and mingle them so each battery discharges completely each month leaving two out of the radio to "rest" until the next charging cycle... i know, it is weird, but the last set of rechargeables (those purple things from rat shack) lasted about three years using the same anal ritual....

Ouch!

That is not correct! Your math is great, but the radio (and the battery charging circuit) requires 9v DC. Please see your manual, or just look on the side of the radio. :?

I dont know if you have a big lots near you or not. But they just had a major buyout of the charger and batteries that were show to you up there. For 4 2000mAh batteries it is 5.99 for 4 batts and the charger it is 14.99. Not a bad deal. I stocekd up oj them. Got 2 more chargers and 6 packs of batteries. I also get a discount there so my price is a bit lower. But the price I quoted above is the in store price.

Not a bad deal.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for helping me out. At least I will be able to charge the batteries soon and forget the $60.00 price! LOL
