Can someone explain how to work with banks on the Pro-97? The manual refers to the banks and I understand them in threory, but I have no idea how to get from one to another or how to store info in a specific bank

Check out the wiki under radio models, radio shack pro-97. there is an easier to read version of the manual with step by step programming instructions.

also, I would highly recomend win97 for programming it with a data cable and your computer ... it makes it really easy :)

Look at it another way; there are 1000 channels in the PRO-97 numbered from 000 to 999. If you have any channel between 000 and 099 selected, you are in bank 0. Channels 100-199 are in bank 1.

During scanning the top line of the display may look like this: 0123..6789
In my example above, banks 4 & 5 are off. To turn on bank 4, press 4 while the PRO-97 is scanning (and not stopped on a conversation). To turn off bank 4, press the 4 again. Each of the # keys will toggle a bank on and off in this manner.

Now that you have that mastered, check out "sub groups".

As rchalupajr mentioned above, go the thread in this Forum by amol radhi "Help With Scanner Programing" (09/27/2007 0205 AM). Go to the post of KA3JJZ a 0534 hrs. Click on the link provided. That would take you to the "Easier To Read Manual". This has been a valuable tool for me to use to program my P-97. I hope this helps.
