I had a pro 97 for a while now, and i programmed in whatever frequencies i could, but the thing barley ever spoke, so i bought the cable, and when i put the cd in and pluged the cable in, it says on the directions, to browse for driver and find the folder on the cd called drivers, but i cant find it anywhere so i just installed it automatically and it said it was ready to use..

what else do i need to download? or can i just find the frequencies now and put em on?

If you didn't buy part# 20-047, it won't work. What OS are you running on your PC? If it is XP, or, Vista, you will not need to run the driver CD. Right click on My Computer, click on Hardware devices, click on ComPorts. See which comport the USB cable is on. Set that in the your software and load up your frequencies into the scanner.

my next question is, what else do i need to install? i read that i need win 97,but i dont wanna pay 25 bucks...

can i use the scancat lite demo?
WIN97 comes with a free trial period. Well worth $25. If you enjoy headaches, go ahead with ScanCat(Lite) but don't say someone didn't warn you. It is PURE JUNK with regards to programming the PRO-97. Do a little searching about it here on RR and you'll find that many others have had big troubles using ScanCat(Lite).

Good luck.

I 2nd that. WIN 97 well worth it. I did the free trial and liked it so much, I spent the money on it. Its easy to use and everything is layed out in front of you. Upload and download is relatively fast. I spent a bit extra on the USB cable direct from GRE.

and where can i get a file that has all frequencies for ocean county, EMt, Fire, Police?

There is no exact place on here to get a pre-made file for your scanner. However, with Win97, you can download Ocean County right into your scanner. You can pick and choose what frequencies, and if you choose to put in the trunked system, I believe it will automatically configure the scanner with the correct settings (Don't hold it to me, I'm not on the computer with Win97 installed to verify if it will indeed configure the trunked system.)

I use Win97, and it is well worth the $25. I tried ScanCat...nothing but problems.

WIN97 has tabs to select different types of pages. The default tab is "SETTINGS". This is where you enter the priority frequency (if you want to use one), which banks are enabled by default, the sign-on message and other generic global settings in the scanner.

Select the "CHANNELS" tab by clicking on it. It will default to bank 0. There are 100 frequency slots there (00-99). There are 10 banks to select between (0-9). Over to the right are where the talkgroups get entered.

If you read the manual for the scanner, or the online easier-to-read version; you'll understand the organization of the scanner better. I know it is complex, and wouldn't expect you to learn it all at once. But WIN97 just mimics the scanner. In other words, if you understand the scanner, you'll understand WIN97.

Do you have any idea of what you want to program and/or how you want to organize it in the scanner? The scanner is extremely flexible (which means you decide how you want it programmed). I suggest dedicating a single bank to a trunked system (I know it seems like a waste because you'll probably only use 4 frequency slots) for now until you get the hang of it. Use another bank or banks for the conventional frequencies you want to monitor. Get something programmed so you can start to use the scanner. Once you're listening you'll start to understand better how to organize it. And you can work on the organization in WIN97 on your computer while listening. Then upload to the scanner when you've completed the next revision of your organization.

I wanted to have all EMT In one channel, Fire in another, all police in one.

I most likeley wont try changing it again, i Just wanna get all my countys frequencies in and working and the trunking frequencies.

see the thing is i dont understand where or how to add trunking frequencies, i dont know what tabs to enter in info to

I was hoping maybe someone just had an ocean county file of all the frequencies that tehy made

can you just take a look at the frequencies for my county, and tell me how i should enter them, i really have no preference on how there ordered or anything, just as long as i can hear everything, id appreciate it

In his original post he indicated that he was interested in Ocean County police, fire & EMS and this is the New Jersey Forum. It appears he's looking for a file to download, unless I'm misunderstanding him.

And....to gmclam, I've never used software to download into my scanners so I don't know how it works, but I think if you become a premium (paying) member, you can somehow download the information you want right from the database here.

Also, have you looked at the database for Ocean County here?
County Trunked System:
Scanner Frequencies: Ocean County Trunking System, Ocean County, New Jersey
County and Municipal Conventional Frequencies
Ocean County, New Jersey (NJ) Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference

I too had some difficulty learning WIN97, but it's breeze once you get the hang of it. The registered version (well worth it), may allow you to automaticall import control frequencies then pick and choose talkgroups within and put them in banks wherever you want.

I've not checked for your area so don't know what type systems they use in your neck of the woods. MOT is pretty easy to set up and use.

I too wanted ONLY to listen to a certain group of FireDepartments, PD's, and tac op's, some aviation frequencies, and other less listened frequencies.

This thing drove me nuts until I FINALLY understand the concept of how trunking systems work. I was an old school guy that was used to just conventional frequencies, so trunking was completly new to me.

You'll get the hang of it. I'll got back and look at your specific area and see what I can come up with. That will at least let you know what you are facing it getting it set up.

Here is a screen shot of stuff in your area

Good Luck!

I loaded a file for you to input into your scanner for Ocean Co NJ.

Bank 1 - FIRE
Bank 2 - EMS
Bank 3 - POLICE
Bank 4 - Public Service
Bank 5 - Sherriff
Bank 6 - Ocean CO EEOC

Go here---> www.gutslammer.com/pro97/OCEAN-NJ.p97

SAVE the file somewhere.

OPEN WIN97.. FILE - OPEN

Choose OCEAN-NJ.p97.

Go to Scanner menu on the WIN97 menu - 3 over from FILE

Connect your programming cable to the computer and scanner.

From the Scanner menu, choose "UPLOAD TO SCANNER"

Wait for it to complete, Unplug cables.

Press the SCAN button on the scanner. press the keypad numbers 1,2,3,4,5,6, etc and you should be in business.
