Here is a question I must ask before my purchase. Is the pro 164 a advancement over the pro 96 with the exception of the digital/analog? I am new to this scanner thing. I have the pro 96 that I have had for almost 10yrs now and I think it is time to move on. I just can't afford the steep price of the new digital scanners! Thanks.

One advantage the 164 has is the capability to track LTR Standard systems; that capability is not available using a Pro-96!

Thanks for the speedy reply! What is a LTR system? All the systems I look at are either Mot or ED system. So do you think I should go with this scanner or just stay with the 96? Any other good reviews about the 164?

Ltr

Motorola, EDACS and LTR are types of trunking systems. I'd hang on to the 96. I believe it is upgradable to handle the rebanded Mot trunk systems(someone might have more info on this) and unless you have a LTR system in your area, I wouldn't see the need to (downgrade) to a PRO164 just to have something new. I have a PRO164 and I'd like to have a PRO96. If you really want something newer you might look at the Uniden BC346XT that just came out(or it's digital brother the 396XT)(I know $$$)
