I just recently bought the BCD536HP just a few weeks ago..
The issue I am having is I am unable to access the 536HP in mass storage mode on two of my windows 10 computers.
I am at least able to use my third windows 10 computer to update the 536hp.

All of this started even before I did the pro-voice and DMR firmware upgrades. I am running the latest version of Sentinel 1.07 Revision 2. current firmware version on the BCD536HP is 1.11.12.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled Sentinel, ran it in administrator mode, all of the correct boxes are checked regarding the dot net framework. Even run the dotnetfx.
When I start Sentinel, connect the usb cable to the scanner, turn the scanner on and select usb mass storage mode. the scanner does show up as another drive.

When I try to read from the scanner I get the following error message;

Unhandled exception has occurred in your application
Access to the path 'E:\BCDx36HP\scanner.inf' is denied.

Details of the error are below.

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

I get the same message ,
Unhandled exception has occurred in your application
Access to the path 'E:\BCDx36HP\scanner.inf' is denied.

even if i put the microSD in a card reader on the two computers that I have this issue with. One is a Dell M5030 laptop and the other is an HP p2-1120 desktop.

At least it works fine on my Dell desktop with Windows 10. All of the computers are running windows 10 and are up-to-date.

I love this new scanner, audio is great, EDACS Provoice & DMR work great.
I still have a Bearcat 210 and Bearcat 220 analog scanners that still work.

Thanks,

The error message is saying "Access to the path 'E:\BCDx36HP\scanner.inf' is denied."

Can you access the E drive using Windows File Explorer? Does the "scanner.inf" file exist?

Yes, I can access the E drive using Windows File Explorer.
Yes, the scanner.inf file exist, if I click on it, notepad opens and says Access denied.

I know it's got to be a windows permission issue,
I have run Sentinel as administrator with no change

I have run Sentinel as administrator with no change.
If I try to copy the scanner.inf or any other file that's on the microSD card and paste it to the desktop it says I need to provide administrator permission to copy the file.
I have my profile on all of my computers setup as administrator.
I works just fine on one of my other Windows 10 desktop computers.

How do I change the permission for E drive?
When I right click the file, open as administrator is not an option.

I wonder if there isn't a hiccup in the file.

Could possibly be a problem with the SD card, though it seems strange for it to go bad this quickly. At any rate, a number of users opt to use a higher capacity card that is faster (especially if you do a lot of recording).

Also have you tried re-formatting the SD card using SD Formatter, then do a Clear User Data and lastly rewriting everything to your scanner?

1. USB Cable
2. SD card file permissions and or Slide Lock on (Secondary) Regular SD card if used
3. Uniden Driver

1. It works just fine on only one of my Windows 10 computers, and on an old Windows XP computer.

2. Yes I did upgrade to a 16gb Class 10 micro-SD card and reformat using SD reformatter and Clear User Data and lastly rewriting everything to my scanner. I did that on the Windows 10 Dell desktop that it works on.

Note that on the two Windows 10 computers that I have the "access denied" permission issue with, I still get that "access denied" if I try to "clear user data" regardless if I am connected to the scanner via USB cable or using an SD card reader adapter.
I did look at the properties for that drive but do not see a tab for Security. I am guessing that's because I have administrator rights on all of my computers.

Both the original 4gb and the new 16gb cards
3. I have tried another cable.

So, it's must be a Windows permission issue.
I just want to get it to play nice with all of my Windows 10 computers. Or get Windows 10 to play nice with the BCD536HP regardless of which computer it's connected to.

Other that that I am enjoying my BCD536HP scanner, Been missing out on a lot of things since a lot of departments/agencies went digital. most of the local public service departments in Augusta County Virginia are still analog except Staunton Va Police department that is DMR. I can listen to them now with the BCD536HP as well as my MD-380 DMR HT and my CS-800 DMR rig.

Still only able to use only one of my Windows 10 computers with Sentinel to access and update/program my BCD536HP.
I have tried running and even installing Sentinel as administrator.
I have two new 16gb Class 10 micro-SD cards and the original 4gb micro-SD cards all of them have been reformatted.....I was only able to clear user data and rewrite everything back to the SD cards with just the one Windows 10 desktop computer.

I took the 4gb micro-SD card put it in a card reader slot on my windows 10 laptop, used the SD Formatter program to erase the card. Then started Sentinel, selected "clear user data" and checked show all drives. Selected the dive "H" that was the SD card.
Then when I tried to clear user data and rewrite everything back to the SD card on my windows 10 laptop, it says "writing to Scanner" then I get an error message " Database is Corrupt, Operation canceled" "Access to the path 'H:\BCDx36HP\scanner.inf' is denied."

I then removed the SD card from my Windows 10 Dell laptop. moved it to the only Windows 10 desktop that works fine with the BCD536HP, then started Sentinel, selected "clear user data" and checked show all drives. selected the SD card drive. "F" Unknown" the clicked "ok" that worked..
Then selected "write to scanner:.
the window pops up showing Drive 'F: Uniden Unknown (ESN:XXXXXXXXXXXXXX ) (The scanner does write the ESN after it does a reboot)
Checked both write options. erase favorites list on scanner and force write full database the clicked ok
That worked also.
Then selected update firmware...it installed updates to the card.
Then I put that card back into the laptop, opened Sentinel, selected 'read from scanner' and still get the error; Access to the path 'H:\BCDx36HP\scanner.inf' is denied."
I then put the SD card back into the scanner it it works just fine.
So, right now I am using a 16gb class 10 micro-SD card in the scanner and have another 16gb card and the original 4gb cad as backups.

Still can't use my windows 10 Dell laptop or my HP desktop with Sentinel to access the 536HP in mass storage mode. It does show up as an extra drive on both of those computers.

I can use the 536Hp with the laptop in serial mode with the RH-536HP_mkII remote software and VLC to stream the audio with no problems.

Has be some permission issue with Windows even though I am setup as administrator on all of my computers.

It sounds like its a Windows 10 issue rather than Sentinel. If you already haven't tried, a Google search for Windows 10 permissions might be helpful. I saw several suggestions as this issue has been experienced by others.

The ESN XXXXXX means the new/reformatted card hasn't been in a scanner. The ESN is written to the card by the scanner as part of the power down process - as in "Writing to SD Card Please Wait". If you were to remove the card and put it into your computer's card reader, you should see an ESN.

FWIW, it you have multiple x36 scanners you can swap SD cards even though the ESN from scanner A is different than scanner B. The "new" ESN is written during the power down operation as described above.

Windows 10 permission problem with Sentinel

I agree it's must be a permission problem with Windows 10 and I am guessing it also might include the dot net framework. Even though all the check boxes are checked the same on my Windows 10 desktop that everything works fine regarding Sentinel, the SD card and the 536HP.

Tried some of the fixes after doing a google search for windows permissions with no luck.

Still haven't had any luck getting my Windows 10 laptop to work with my BCD536HP.

Still get the same error message that's in my original post above, regardless if I am trying to read from the scanner in mass storage mode or by trying to read the SD card in the card reader.

I have tried new SD cards as well. It works with no problem with only one of my Windows 10 desktops.
All three of the Micro-SD cards work fine with the one Windows 10 desktop.
I have tried running Sentinel as administrator as well.

FWIW - there was a very lengthy thread a year or so ago where someone was having similar issues (not sure if exact though) and it exasperated many of us "experts". It was finally resolved, though I sure don't remember the result.

No idea what to search to find it. Maybe someone else will remember on case it helps.

I know I commented a few times, but searching for my posts would be useless.

Maybe??? http://forums.radioreference.com/uniden-tech-support/317887-windows-10-uniden-usb-driver.html

Sometimes you have to uninstall the USB drivers from the Device Manager and allow them to be found and reinstall. Sometimes you have to update the drivers from the machine manufacturers support site, sometimes the machine manufacturer is SLOW to getting updated drivers and you need to figure out whose chipset and go to the site to look for updated drives, sometimes there are BIOS related issues with the machine that need update BIOS, sometimes you need to turn power management off for the USB ports.

Never a clear and straight forward solution.

Tried windows 10 in clean boot mode and and safe boot mode and still get the same error message as in my first post above.

Unhandled exception has occurred in your application
Access to the path 'E:\BCDx36HP\scanner.inf' is denied.

Regardless if I am trying to read the 536HP in Mass Storage mode or trying to access the SD card in a card reader on my Windows 10 laptop.
The Scanner does show up as an extra drive when in mass storage mode and the SD card shows up as well when in the SD card slot on my computer.
When I just go that that drive, open the BCDx36HP folder, and try to open the scanner.inf file with notepad I get an 'access denied! ' message. same message with pop up if I try to copy a file from the SD card to my computer. It's some type of permission issue. even though I am setup as administrator.

Right now reading/writing from either the 536HP in mass storage mode or with all three of my SD cards in an adapter only works fine on one Windows 10 Dell Desktop and an old Windows XP desktop.

Once we figure out the issue, then I can apply that fix to my other Windows 10 desktop

Ok, then, it isn't a Sentinel or even scanner-specific thing. Can you open any file (or write any file) to the card?
