• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Subject radio: EFJ5317, model 242-5317-201-AAAB, serial# 5317...18863
File format: 5.7
Controller: 1.19.0
Hdwe Rev: 0.1.2
Boot Load: 1.7
PCConfigure 1.28.08 and 1.28.01 (and others)

Radio display reports PARMS FAIL and will not accept a valid code plug or allow a parameter read.
It's not a typical connectivity issue, as I'm able to read the Version Information and the Options, but if I attempt to install a valid code plug, the process starts and gets to 70-75% and aborts. Display then reports DOWNLOAD until radio is power cycled.

I've tried all the normal tricks... using different baud settings, adjusting the delay setting, using various Windows 7 and Windows XP machines, using both true serial and USB-serial adapter... nothing works. I've also attempted to load a new, single-frequency codeplug.

PCTune will not load parameters - reports "No longer supports this file version" or words to that effect. Newer versions of PCConfigure report similar errors. While I haven't seen any specific error that reports this, I suspect that this is a very early radio with early firmware that might not be supported by PCC 1.28.x or above, or other newer tools, like PCTune. I've seached for earlier versions of PCC but haven't found anything. I'm hoping that by posting this, perhaps some earlier-era EFJ experts might have some insights or suggestions.

and the fix was ??
I tried many versions of PCConfigure and all failed with various error codes. Apparently, these old version 1 radios will only work with PCC 1.30.7.
I created a simple, three-channel codeplug and downloaded it to the radio to clear the PARMS FAIL error. Then I tried using my already-built codeplug (built with 1.28.08) with 1.30.7, but the radio would not accept it. I ended up building a whole new codeplug in 1.30.7, which the version 1 radio accepted. All is well.
