• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

My county has recently upgraded to a UHF P25 system that simulcasts using the CQPSK standard. That being said, the tac channels are all analog. The Grants/Bonds were not sufficient to replace every radio in the county and we were left with the option of purchasing our own radios. We could have rode the bid and purchased new radios from MOTO for $1500-$3000 each, or acquire surplus radios from other means for a fraction of that.

We decided to obtain several XTS3000 portables and Astro Spectra mobiles as they are plentiful and simply replaceable vs repairable at their current costs. In operation, both models operate flawlessly, until they attempt to scan. The P25 channels (3 of them) are set to the correct modulation, normal squelch, fast unmute, Non Dynamic Scan, Non Talkback and Selected Channel Priority. We have 8 channels total, the rest are analog.

The radios have no issue picking up the analog channels on scan, but even if I am set to a P25 channel (which would make that channel priority) it misses entire transmissions on all P25 channels, or hear only small parts of the transmission.

I have attempted many different settings but none seem to improve their performance. I have owned many of these models in all bandsplits, but never encountered this issue before. This is the first time i have encountered the CQPSK standard though.

I would be greatful if anyone has a solution to this issue.

Thank You.

When was the last time the radios were aligned. I have found any radio of that generation I have bought used to be off frequency due to age. P-25 is a little more finicky than analog on decoding, and also what firmware are the radios, the later the firmware the better for decoding especially CQPSK. You can also try setting the squelch from Normal Squelch to Digital Carrier Squelch to see if they receive any better.

The Firmware version is 07.12.00.00 and DSP is N08.02.08.

It works well without fault when not scanning and alignment is good as confirmed with my HP8924C.
