Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Program a P25 channel without a Talkgroup in Armada

A local fire department converted to P25 and is not using a Talkgroup. I'm trying to program some new VM and VP radios for EMA with Armada, and it keeps adding a Talkgroup to the channel. Is it possible to remove the Talkgroup?

That's what I did initially, but cannot hear the traffic on the channel. If I press "Monitor", I can hear it. Could it be something else? The NAC is correct.

You can also enable "digital squelch" on the channel. This will unmute on any traffic regardless of TG/NAC.

I found I could use Talk Group FFFF with my VP8000 and the radio would unmute on any talk group. Also when TX FFFF any receiving radio will unmute regardless of its TG.
As far as my limited testing has gone, I don’t think any radio actually TX no TG. When I have no TG set on NX5000 or APX the receiving radio indicates it is receiving TG 1. Are you truly certain they have not set a TG? FFFF will solve the problem if you cannot find TG used. My guess is your real problem is an incorrect receive NAC (or split NAC). F7E on receive will open on any NAC. Digital squelch is a blunt instrument. Make sure you have two way communication with fire dept radios when you finish.

Maybe confirm what they are using with whomever maintain their system. If you have an authorized need they should provide the proper information necessary

ie do not use radio reference to program official radios!!

Radio ID comes to mind....
Not sure what version f/w the change happened in with the Vikings, but if no ID is used then audio wont open up.
The NX's went that way too for a while, but they changed it back thankfully

No talkgroup means the P25 default talk group which is 1.

For most conventional applications it is very rare that a talkgroup is defined as the default of 1 has the most in common with analog (sub PL/DPL for NAC and you are done). If the newer Viking radios don't default to having an ID of 1 in the SUID location then you will need to set the ID to at least 1 as that may cause some issues on RX and certainly will prevent the radio from transmitting.
