There are several models of "Zip Code" scanners that you input the location and the radio will draw the frequencies from its internal database. These work almost anywhere in the USA or Canada.

Uniden makes the HomePatrol 1, HomePatrol 2, the BCD436HP and BCD536HP scanners and Whistler makes the WS1080 and 1088 handhelds and the WS1095 and 1098 desktop/mobiles.

All except the HomePatrol 1 handle both Phase 1 and Phase 2 digital and the BCD436 and BCD536 handle ProVoice with a paid upgrade (only used in a few areas around the country).

These would probably be easier for you to use, just set the location and select the services you want to listen to.

if you travel a lot

i would go with one that has GPS.
but beware some like the 396XT you have to set up the systems and then it will change as you drive.
also you have to get a GPS that can "talk" to the unit. they have their own language it seems.

Just what are you calling or referring to as "codes"?????

Fire, Police, and EMS or almost anything else can be programmed into a true scanner.

What you need to know is some scanners need to be programmed and others are self programming because they use sd cards where the database information is stored.

I dont know if my last post was loaded to the forum. So ill type again. Cause I was going to edit it. I am no trucker just a normal person In my house. I havnt used a scanner for many years. The one I used I only had my local ems 911 and police and fire station.I was wondering if I could use other states to my galesburg il town.I use to have a phone that no longer works. It had scanners on it I downloaded and used for while. I guess they had to come already programmed with what I think you guys call codes. Things you enter into a scanner to get those places added to my scanner. But those apps had ones where you click country then state then county or town. And you could listen to any state or country. And the scanner would be inside my house so it doesnt matter what it is inside. Also wondering if they had scanners that were already programmed what I call codes(but am talking about my town, other towns, other states thats not mine) and seeing if they came with that scanner.

Are you talk about scanner apps on your phone because you can go to Broadcastify - Live Police, Fire, EMS, Aircraft, and Rail Audio Feeds and stream audio from other areas (others peoples scanners) so you can listen.. its called Streaming, all scanner apps get there feeds for streaming generally from broadcastify.com

The things we program in scanners are called frequencies, talkgroup id's (TGID's), systems, sites, system types, control channels, and many other things... .

Since I see you didn't read any of my suggested links and haven't given your self any base knowledge of scanning or scanner set-ups we probably won't be able to help at all, at least until you form some kind of base knowledge on the subject. Do yourself a favor and read up on Conventional frequencies (channels) and Digital Systems (with Channels (TGID's).

"States to my town" makes no sense your local system probably went digital and you'll need a digital trunktracking scanner.

I have a question since I dont know anything about these things. I am wondering about home scanners and Iam wondering if all scanners use same codes that you enter for each place? Also can you show me a site of all codes for different country, state, county?

YES - the KNOWN and submitted/shared CODES are available
Illinois Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference

Codes as you reference them are also known as

for Conventional Radio systems the Frequency and Tone
then you need to tell the radio is it Analog or P25 (Digital)

For Trunked Radio Systems - you need to Program the Data Channels (also known as Control Channels), then once done, select the various Talk-groups you want to listen to.

Now for trunked stystems, especially a rather large County of State system, you only want to program the tower that is the best signal for you.

As for editing a previous post, you can Only edit your post for approx 20-30 min's after you make the post, after that it is LOCKED

?

1. Are you trying or wanting to program a "SCANNER?" Your first post suggests you may consider buying one.

2. Are you trying or wanting to listen to scanner traffic ON-LINE without a scanner?

3. Modern, up-to-date scanners that come pre-loaded are available. These would be good for someone not wanting to or interested in programming their scanners themselves. I believe they ALL come with a hefty price tag. Is price important to you?

If you can answer any of the above, perhaps someone here can help you.

I think we can all stop replying to what is essentially a dead thread

Agree with that! All I know is that he was in a house not a truck, that he knows nothing of these things, he has a phone but no longer works, and he wants to load "codes" for other "countries;" Not counties, mind you, but countries.

Peace and Love. Greg
