Programing Bct15x

Hello All,

I am new here and new to scanning. I am currently in Rochester NY. I tried programing (after a lot of wiki reading) some sherrif channels from the database using the free scan software. I think I am still getting a lot of motor boating I believe. Not sure what I am doing wrong. I am usually pretty electronic savvy, but this scanner has got me pretty lost. Any help is greatly appreciated.

One common cause for motorboating is that you are programming a trunked system as a conventional one. Let's be clear about what you are trying to hear...for Monroe County NY, from our database...

At the bottom of this page are the trunk system links for your area. The only one that would be an issue would be the power company, which uses a P25 system. The 15X won't handle that.

Be more specific about what you are trying to hear. If the link above isn't what you are using, go to the Database link in the upper left toolbar under the site title and use the pulldowns to get to the URL of what you want to hear.

According to the database, all of the law enforcement in your county is P25 digital, including Rochester PD and the Sheriff's department. You unfortunately won't be able to monitor them with your analog only BCT15, you will need a digital scanner like the BCD996XT or PSR-600 to receive them.

It looks like everything else is still analog though, so if you don't want to listen to law enforcement, your BCT15 could still work.

Thanks for the info! I figured I was missing something simple. I am interested in monitoring fire mostly, and I guess that is my only option in Monroe county. I will have to keep messing around trying to figure this thing out. Thanks again!
