Is there anyone in the Kansas City area that can help me program my 436HP using the Sentinel software. I cannot get my favorite lists to work correctly. I have looked at all the threads here and watched upmans video on YT and I just cannot get my head wrapped around this programming. I can get no trunking systems to scan. I have checked all the service types and quick keys.

Thanks in advance.

Watching thread. Same here. I cannot figure out the Sentinel software. I make a FL, but always get "nothing to scan". I've had a little luck adding a FL from the radio, but it still scans areas I didn't add!

Make sure you have DOWNLOAD and MONITOR set ON in the profile or it won't make it to the scanner. Also start with no Quick Keys until you get the hang of writing to the scanner. Also make sure all Service Types are enabled. The default is Custom 1 for FLs you make.

The above covers about 90% of the mistakes people make.

I also suggest that novice users do not use Location Control for Favorites Lists until they get some experience under their belt.

If a FL is created from scratch (as in not appending from the master database), all locations are set to 0/0 (Sites and Departments), which are real locations in an ocean somewhere. This can throw things off significantly.

Thank you ofd8001. I have setup a favorites list from the database using Upman's video on YT. I believe my confusion is setting up the FL on the scanner using the SQK's and DQK'S. Still trying to figure that out.

Just a thought.... but you may be too far away if you are in Kearney,Mo for KCMO to get the control channel. I don't get very good signal from Leavenworth, KS and you are farther away. You might try for Platte county and get North KC.
I don't have a 436 so cant help there.

One thing I've done is to incorporate Quick Key information in the Favorites List/System/Department names. That helps me remember.

For example Favroites List ABC with Favorites List Quick Key 1 is "F01 ABC". System DEF with System Quick Key 2 is "S02 DEF". Department GHI with Department Quick Key 3 is "D03 GHI".

As noted previously, the hierarchy of Quick Keys is:

FF - Favorites List
SS - System
DD - Department

A Quick Key turns that "thing" Off or On and thus anything below it in the hierarchy. However Quick Keys will not change anything Avoided or Unavoided (yeah this is a little confusing at first).

I am in no way a expert on the bcd436hp. I have mine set up for some basic scanning right now, if you would like we can meet in the Liberty area and see if I can help. I'm still learning too.

I set up my programming similarly. I place System quick keys at the beginning of the name, and Department quick keys at the end. This saves display space, and makes it easier to spot. Example:

12-ADAMS COUNTY (this indicates System 12)
Adams Co Sheriff-1 (this indicates Department 1)

This way, if I want to shut a system of department off, the radio shows me the number I need.

Really great tips! I was pulling my hair out learning this scanner's dynamic programing, wondering how to remember everything! These suggestions give me something to at least get started with. Thanks!
