If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello all,

I would like to programme the above captioned radio on a computer using win 11 and CHIRP. I have a few questions......
Is this doable?
If I need a USB Serial cable with FTDI chipset to do so, can someone recommend a brand name cable as there's so much junk out there.
What software do I need, and where would I find it?
Thanks for any help.

The TK760, and 760G are listed on Chirp, while I don't see the "HG" listed, one of those two should probably
work. I found the Kenwood cable I use on eBay, probably Blue max 49er......If chirp works then you won't need any additional software.

On my Kenwood TK-981, chirp worked but you had to be careful sometimes it jumbled some stuff up on the import or so it seemed. Other than that, chirp worked fine when I wrote things back to the radio.

BlueMax49ers has the correct USB programming cable for that radio for $31.95USD, plus, they'll send you the KPG-56 software for free.

There's no reason to risk hosing things up with Chirp when you can get the manufacturers software for free with the cable.

While I agree totally with this, in my particular case chirp worked fine. I was caught out on a different laptop and I could readily get Chirp whereas, the Kenwood software was downloaded at home. That being said, with the exception of RT systems on ham radios, and a couple of different scanners, for commercial radios I always recommend using the factory software when possible. Since he provides it when you get the cables, *usually* there's no reason not to use it. I've ordered a lot of cables from him and they've all worked top notch!

Thank you for this information. Will this cable and software work with Win 11? I do not have access to older windows or DOS.
If so, I will certainly order from BlueMax49ers.

Use 'TK-760G'

The difference between the TK-760HG and TK-760G is the power output. The 760HG is a 50w radio and the 760G is 25w.

While the TK-760 and TK760G share the same model number, they are completely different radios.

TK-760:

This is a 32 channel radio
TK760: 25w
TK760H: 50w

TK760G:

This is a 128 channel radio
TK760G: 25w
TK760HG-1: 50w

The TK760G is a much more modern radio than the TK760

Be advised while blue max 49er will provide the software with a free download they do not provide the license key needed to activate the software.

I can only say all of his cables worked on win 10 for me without issue. My neighbor ham friend uses windows 11 however, and he's had no issues. I cannot comment to your exact cable but, the one I ordered for the TK 981 did work.

The only reason I was leaning towards CHIRP is that I understand it works with Win 11
While I like the factory stuff when possible I see no reason not to try Chirp. Since my post an hour or so ago I talked to another friend that did chirp on a kenwood and he also said he was able to program a kenwood TK981 ok with it. Honestly I just retried it on my Apple laptop and heck it works good on there with the blue max cable and chirp.

If it is a BlueMax49er cable, and proper Kenwood software, it should work just fine with Win11
