Hello, I ran across this site on my searches on batlabs and find it very helpful. I am interested in programming a maxtrac radio I have here to the Milwaukee county trunking system for scanning purposes to be used in my car. I have an MTS 2000 a fried programmed for me with everything in it but I would like something a little more permanent in my car. I have a lot of experience with UHF gear and I am finding this whole trunking thing very difficult. I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to help me out. I would be willing to pay. Let me know if anyone can help. Matix-53172@wi.rr.com

Unless you have a Maxtrac with the Type II upgrade in it, your Maxtrac will probably only do Type I trunking, which Milwaukee County apparently is all Type II. If you want to monitor Type II mobile, you're better off going for a GTX, LCS-2000, MCS-2000, or a Spectra -- or a scanner.

Good Luck!

Ok so I went out and got a GTX, can anyone help me out here with a codeplug or willing to program it for me? I am willing to pay you for your time.

Alex,

This is late but I figured I would answer....

Long answer.......
You will prob have no luck on fiding someone to program that Maxtrac. Motorola smartnet trunked radios will NOT allow you to inhibit transmit via the software. You will have to find a system key. The system key is needed to program any smartnet trunked radio, and is usually well guarded by the system owner.

When you program a Maxtrac, GTX, STX, Spectra....etc on trunking, it WILL transmit even with a wrong connect tone or invalid user ID. THe reason I bring this up is because the system manager WILL see your radio trying to access the system and will raise questions. Some radio will do auto affiliate and every time you turn on your radio, it will send out data on the control channel and will be recorded by the system manager.
I take care of 1 LTR and 3 Smartnet systems...I know when someone is trying to use a mobile as a scanner ;-) If you do it to Milwaukee's system, the system manager there will know too. It will get you in alot of hot water. Make sure in your MTS the auto affiliate is turned off.

Short answer...
Dont do it. Buy a trunktracker.

Detailed answer: I've seen the number of rogue radios on the Milwaukee County TRS, and believe when I say that the system manager knows about them. With the software he's running he knows how many there are, where they are (which TG's), how long they were there, if they caused interference etc.

 You are being watched.

Take that radio from Dan and get rid of it if you haven't already...if it hasn't been shut off by the system manager yet, it will be.

check on Yahoo groups for a group called "Wisconsin Incident Alert"... join up and check out the messages. They promote a WI based radio dealer who sells and programs all models of Motorola radios including most trunking models. I hear they guy works direct with public safety agencies nation-wide and has a large offering of equipment both new and used. Let me add that these radios are sold & programmed for RECEIVE ONLY.

Interesting that this post is live again….. just to update you guys. I did wipe the MTS clean but still haven’t sold it yet. I haven’t had the time to research scanners yet but will be doing that soon.

They have real good deals, but do not provide programming for any trunking systems, only conventional channels..they say No Exceptions.
I purchased 2 radios from them and got a pretty good deal.
