All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello,

I recently purchased a TK-3160 with Windows Programming software, But no cable. I have a TK-260 with the DOS Software, and a COM Cable. The guy i purchased the TK-260 from told me to turn off the FIFO Buffers and turn down the Baud Rate to 2100?? or something like that?? I am wanting to program the TK-3160 using the Windows software that came with it, as well as the COM Cable that came with the TK-260. I was wondering if i need to change any of the settings back to normal?? (Basically turn the FIFO Buffers back on and turn the baud rate back to 2400)

Thanks,

Is it an aftermarket USB or Serial cable or kenwood original? Cause both radios use the same cable ( KPG-22 for Kenwood ). Have you already tried it and it didn't work? Have you checked for correct com port?

its an aftermarket Serial cable that i bought with my TK-260. I have not tried it yet, Because i wanted to make sure it didnt mess up my radio. The guy i bought the TK-260 from told me to turn off the fifo buffers and turn the baud rate down to 2400BPS if i programmed the radio, If not it would mess up the radio. Here is what he wrote and saved in the ReadMe file on the Programming software disc.

README

"MAKE SURE BEFORE YOU USE THE CABLE AND PROGRAM THE RADIO YOU DISABLE FIFO BUFFERS AND SET YOUR BAUD RATE AT COM PORT 1
TO 2400BPS. OPEN THE KPG27D.EXE FILE INTO A WINDOW AND THE SOFTWARE SHOULD BE ABLE TO PROGRAM THE RADIO."

Now i know just from my little expertice in computers that to run my TK-260 KPG-27D DOS Software on windows i have to "slow the computer down"

I was wondering if i need to keep the fifo buffers off and leave the baud rate down while programming the TK-3160, Or, Turn the fifo buffers back on and turn the baud back up to the default to "speed the computer back up" to run the Windows KPG-82D Programming software for the TK-3160??
