Recently had a 996P2 programmed by Scanner Master...but, that's another story yet to be dealt with. So, I am attempting (miserably) to acquaint myself with the operation of the 996P2. Somehow, through inadvertence, I did something: the radio now does a general band scan/search whenever a preprogrammed frequency is inactive. So, it will stop to receive on a programmed channel and then start a general band scan then stop when there is activity on another programmed channel and then start a general band scan, etc. Do not want a band scan function in between reception of programmed channels. How does one turn off this feature which I inadvertantly activated? Aiyeeeeee!

I just had the same accident on my 325. When it gets to the search band you want to go away, hit HOLD, then FUNCTION, then L/O. You can also scroll through the search banks and scan groups to lock or unlock them.

If I'm reading your post right it sounds like you have a service search or custom search band assigned to a system.

Menu.

Search for...

Edit Service.

Pick the service search that's being scanned. i.e Public Safety.

Search with Scan.

Set Quick Key.

Make it a decimal (.) to omit from the system/s you're scanning.

Consequently, you can also search up to 10 custom search ranges along with your programmed systems.

Menu.

Search for...

Edit Custom.

Chose the Custom search range 1 though 10.

Search with Scan.

Set Quick Key.

Set it as a decimal (.).

This may be a process of elimination, but with these instructions you now know how it works.

Refer to my post here on a quick low down on how to manually program.

I can't even... LOL

When I got my first digital capable scanner in circa 2004 I just dove right in. Seldom ever using the manual. Even today with my P2's I bought on eBay. LOL In a nutshell I'm pretty damn technically inclined... Do you wanna know how to use bleed air from the APU in a 737 to start the engines? I can even show you how to program the damn FMC/FMS (Flight Management System) And when I'm playing Call of Duty I like to bake cookies in the adversary's rear end HAHAHA!
