If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi all,
Got a programming cable recently and finally got around to using it today. Problem is, I programmed the new channels into 3 seperate groups in the programming, and now I have lost the scan function in group1, which are all the RR channels here in BC. I am unable to toggle A on the front panel....when I do, an A is not added to the screen, it simply beeps. Can someone help?
Thanks

With out having your programming file to review, it will be a hard time trying to diagnose what isn't working. Keep in mind, every button, except for the power button, can be programmed to do a host of different things.

Worst case, if you don't get a useful answer here, drop your file on a USB stick and stop over at Vella Radio in Salmon Arm. They are a Kenwood dealer, and definitely can help you out.

Thanks ...but I think I've figured it out... I didn't realize that scan only covers one group at a time. When I change groups, scan works fine .... I assume that if I combine the 4 groups by putting the frequencies in 1 group, scan will actually cover all of them, or is scan limited to a given number of channels?
Thanks for the response.

Don't have that Kenwood model, but you need to go into the scan settings in the software.

With Kenwood radios you have the option to set scan for one zone or check a setting in scan menu settings to enable the radio to scan all zones. You need to change the setting in scan settings to muti zone scan.

In the scan settings area of the software you can set up things like the scan revert channel. All my Kenwood radios are set up to revert to selected channel when scanning, so I will always transmit on the channel I selected. You can change it to scan act different to be able to transmit on the current channel that is active in which it stops on.

Also keep 8n mind, that they don't cycle through the scan list fast. The more channels in the scan list, the longer it takes to go through them. So, for example, if you have ALL 35 RR channels, all 14 LD channels and all 4 LADD channels in one scan list, it WILL take a long time to scan them all, with the likelihood of missing transmissions on them really high
