• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Been having an issue with programming my G4, I am using a windows 7 laptop (same computer I have been using to program pager since I got it about a month ago) am running most up to date firmware 1.33 and using most up to date PPS (also when downloading PPS it also added most up to date driver) When I plug in pager it connects to PPS and pager shows PC Connected. I click program and the PPS just spins on preparing programming data usually takes about 5-10 mins now it won’t program new data at all, let it sit for about 40 mins nothing. CP has about 25 zones and 4-5 systems also about 300 unit IDs. Couldn’t seem to find any fixes on here or online just wanted to check before I rolled back to a previous CP and had to re enter zones.

I had this issue when I imported multiple talkgroups from RR that had the same TGID, but on different systems.

I deleted one zone / system at a time at a time and their associated talkgroups until I found the conflicting one that was hanging up the upload.

I did read that earlier but this is the first it’s given me any trouble on it and I do have multiple TGPs that are the same number on different systems. Seems dumb though what should I do if I want both talkgroups on the different systems ?

I haven't really dug into it further and ended up just removing that system from my programming and adding it to a separate file that I upload before I head to that area. Not really convenient at all. Here was the thread I had about it with the answers too:

I’m wondering if I put a zero before the TG number example of a talkgroup of 100 and making it 0100 in the CPS would that fix it ?

No because the pager would be looking for 0100 rather than 100 and you'd never hear the traffic. The fix is in the beta PPS.

So a short update , today tried to delete duplicate TGIDs and found it was going to be way too much work, not as simple as deleting the TG from the master list turns out you have to delete them from each zone and knob position first. Really didn’t want to start over from scratch not with 3 states worth of stuff, so I said screw it and plugged it in and went for the update thinking I’ll let it sit all day if I need to. Connected fine, showed PC connected on unit and same prompt screen just spun on CPS. Finally 1 hr and 40mins later the pager screen switched to programming and a few seconds later showed programming complete. A message popped up in the CPS saying programming failed due to timeout. Discouraged I unplugged the pager it rebooted and come to find out all new zones knob positions and talkgroups were added no problem. I guess I just need to leave myself around 2 hours each time I have to update the pager (which shouldn’t be too often I hope)
