Hello,

I recently purchased a BCD536HP.
I am trying to program a conventional and p25 phase 2 system into a favorites list. I am able to create the list and can get all desired channels into it, but when scanning I miss a lot of transmissions. I guess I have 3 questions if anyone can help.

1) is there anyway to speed up the scanning so that if a channel isn't being used then it can be skipped over in order to get back to another channel that is being used.

2) while programming a p25 p2 system, do I need to include every single site associated with the system or just the one closest to me? The NJICS system has like 15-20 sites. Do i add them all, or just the one closest to me?

3) Would purchasing a new antenna for the scanner help at all? Or is the antenna that comes with the scanner sufficient.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks all.

Use just the site or sites closest to you. If you are scanning 15-20 sites, that is why you are missing transmissions. What is your city and county? You may also have problems with simulcast, but I need to know your location to determine if that is possibly a factor.

What month is it?
1. Speed up scanning: Every site the radio stops on and 'listens' for traffic on takes time. Basically, the more sites, the longer it takes to get through all of them. So, by scanning only the needed (local) sites, you can speed things up.

2. See #1 above. You have location control in this radio. And every site has a GPS lat/long and range. So, by using location control properly, you can also control the sites you listen to. And speed up scanning.

3. Stock antennas usually suck. They are a compromise. Also, we have no idea if you are in the middle of town, or out in the boonies. Your location and RF environment is what dictates what antenna is needed. Also, WHAT you are trying to listen to - what freq to they use? If mostly 800Mhz, get a good 800 antenna, etc, etc.....

There are 5 sites listed for Monmouth County:

Looks like your closest sites on NJICS are Neptune, Wall, and Long Branch. Except for Howell, law enforcement on the NJICS system is encrypted and cannot be received by any scanner. Monmouth County has its own trunked system with 2 sites. Monmouth County Public Safety Trunking System, Monmouth County, New Jersey - Scanner Frequencies (radioreference.com) It appears that most of the trunked activity is on the County system. All law enforcement is encrypted on that system. If you have dropouts, or garbled audio, that is a symptom of simulcast distortion.

Right, so I will be using the Neptune Site for the NJICS System. And be using the two site for the Monmouth County Fire and EMS channels
